I believe that is actually correct. The Constitution simply says that the government can't establish an official religion which you have to follow.

Good.

Hell, I hope they're eventually successful with banning Tobacco completely so that the nutjobs can focus their full attention on Alcohol and fast food.

Everyone's so smug when it comes to giving smokers shiat, but they don't realize that once the nutjobs finish with their anti-smoking bullshiat, they're not going to sit at home and be happy, they're just going to focus on something else, something that the smug assholes might enjoy.

Just Another OC Homeless Guy: The notion of a rigid separation between church and state has no basis in either the text of the Constitution or the writings of our Founding Fathers. - RON PAUL

Thomas Jefferson was the one who coined the term "Separation of Church and State"

Wall of separation

Thomas Jefferson's response, dated January 1, 1802, concurs with the Danbury Baptists' views on religious liberty, and the accompanying separation of civil government from concerns of religious doctrine and practice. Jefferson writes: "...I contemplate with sovereign reverence that act of the whole American people which declared that their legislature should 'make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof,' thus building a wall of separation between Church & State."[5] This doctrine, known as the "wall of separation" or "strict separationism," would later become highly influential in 20th century Supreme Court understandings of the relationship between church and state. As a result, the relevance of this letter is a subject of heated debate, with scholars such as Robert Boston emphasizing its importance, and others such as Mark David Hall arguing that the letter was a historical outlier.[6][7]

Tobacco will never be illegal in this country because, yes they have a very large and powerful lobby, but also it's not in the Government's best interest to outlaw a product that they can so easily control people with.

Kazan: fark the smokers.

That's exactly the point of the headline. Screw them, they're not you. I've seen a number of articles in the past month suggesting higher taxes on all forms of alcohol to reduce the long term health care costs. I've seen them about fast food too.

They started off with just taxing cigarettes. It was usually to pay for the health costs later. Mission creep happens all the time with groups like this. MADD started with one intent, and has become a prohibitionist group. Just wait till .04 is drunk driving, and they add a $10/12 pack tax because, you know, think of the children.

If you think alcohol production does not pollute the air than you are a retard. Be it making the bottles that serve it, or boiling the wort, or distillation, or controlling temperature, someone is breathing smog so your smug ass can drink a cold one. I guess that is the way you like it. The pollution is once or twice removed and Kazan gets to feel smug.

Not just health insurance, but government controlled health insurance. Wait til they can control if you have access to health care based on your habits. Ate red meat more than 3 times a month? Sorry, no health care. Drank more than once a week? Sorry, no health care. "Carbon footprint" too big? Sorry, no health care.

Put the broad brush down there Sparky. I'm a liberal and I also think this nanny state bullshiat is going too far. I'm also very pro-2nd Amendment. shiat, I''ve even spent a great deal of time on this forum biatching about New Yorkers

Michael Bloomberg is a paternalistic sack of shiat that thinks he's king. Based on his stance on smoking, guns, allowing people to eat what they want, and his siccing his "private army" on the OWS protestors (and not allowing the press to cover it.) I think it's safe to say that he hates freedom. And therefore I hate him.

Apples and Oranges subby: Come back and talk to us when alcohol can kill you just by being within a few feet of it.

Look I believe that a private establishment should be able to make its own rules as long as the smoking allowed or smoking not allowed is clearly visible on the front door. That is the only regulation I care about. But please don't pretend as if alcohol and cigarettes are the same thing. If you want to kill yourself that is one thing but alcohol does not give off deadly gasses to be inhaled by the people around you.

In order for alcohol to kill you, you need to drink a ton of it. For tobacco to kill you, you just need to be standing near somebody who is smoking.
