That's exactly what came to my mind.

You know, a Lego Star Trek game would also be a real hoot.

I just don't get the fetishism surrounding LEGO rip-offs of anything. It just seems odd to me.

You'll have to settle for Mega Block Star Trek sets.

And blimey, that's one big-ass ring Frodo's holding.

These LOTR sets (and minifigs) are going to be worth a shiatload to collectors someday. Maybe not as much as the Batman sets, but those things just went off the charts, for no good reason...

Yeah Mega Blocks suck, so I've just about given up on a good Star Trek set.

Is subby nerdgasming over the poster or over the LEGO sets that are coming out?

Obviously, either is geeky, but if it is because of the poster, then subby needs to donate his genitals to someone who will actually leave the house and go out and use them.

Now for you tries to make LEGO plural.

Just picked up all 4 Heroica sets yesterday; very awesome :)

I'm looking through my old 1st Ed D&D modules, figuring out how much it would cost to buy enough loose bricks and bits to make dungeon or cavern floorplans.

I've been trying to convince my group to adopt LEGO blocks for miniatures for a while now.

I haven't purchased any LEGOs since the '80s. Do you think these sets are backwards compatible?

LEGO people can't even wear rings. That's just silly.

Want? Pfff. Lego stopped being cool, like, 15 years ago when they sold out. The pirate set became Pirates of the Caribbean. The castle set became the Lord of the Rings set, or Harry Potter. Space sets became Star Wars sets. I could go on.

I think that really cheapened their product. Metaphorically. Because it really jacked up the literal prices.

2012-01-11 04:17:53 PM
TT Lego LOTR game? Sure, fine. My kids would have no clue, though, and the peter jackson movies are overrated, imo.

I still wish bethesda could have done the sandbox rpg thing with the star trek license.

/like skyrim, but star trek...

LEGO blocks go for about 10 cents a block on average. I just got the VW Camper set at ~140$ (including tax and shipping), it has 1332 blocks. The license fee will push up set costs but are more likely to increase sells for LEGO as well. And it's not like City, Kingdoms, Space, etc etc product lines just got dumped, you can still get great set for these like Kingdoms Joust (NEW).

Also the Star Wars sets are awesome. Like the new Super Star Destroyer or the discontinued Millennium Falcon that was ~450$. Sure that cost jumped a little (the SSD is ~400$ with 3000+ pieces) but that jump is not for all LEGO product lines just the licensed ones.

Santa brought Heroica for my daughter this year - it does a very good job of introducing most pen+paper RPG concepts.

2012-01-11 05:04:44 PM
yeah, I immediately hoped this meant a Lego Lord of the Rings game; they're big on trilogies, and this would be perfect. I might actually buy some of the sets though, as well

Nonsense. There is still a Castle line, there are non Star Wars space sets, and the Pirate sets came out only this year. You could go on, but you'd just be more wrong.

Parallax: These LOTR sets (and minifigs) are going to be worth a shiatload to collectors someday. Maybe not as much as the Batman sets, but those things just went off the charts, for no good reason...

Well, the reason was that they stopped making them, then they released the video game, which drove up demand. This year's release of DC Superheroes should lower the demand for the original Batman sets pretty significantly, as now only the die-hard must-have-the-original-set guys will be after them. Instead of having to buy a Joker minifig for $50, you can pick up one of the sets with him in it.

I'm fairly certain that every single block is compatible with every single other block ever produced... ever.

I used to work at a Lego brand retail store (the lego stores you see in malls with retina damaging yellow interiors) and there was a company internal site that we could for some reason access not just on the office computer, but on the registers out on the floor too. Among other things you could find, there were previews of upcoming sets, often with images. You could see stuff several months in advance, almost always before it was leaked to some fan site. It was really pretty cool. The LOTR stuff is either up there now or will be soon, and I'm a bit bummed I won't get to see it before everyone else. Then I remember why I quit, and I don't mind waiting.

I'd heard about this several months ago from a friend of mine who is a friend of someone in the know. I wasn't supposed to know (nor were they) but they knew how much of a Tolkien nut I am and told me. Managed not to tell anyone, not that I had any proof.
/csb I guess

My daughter and I play Heroica all the time.

We have all 4 sets now. I bought wadurk and draida as soon as they came out, then fortaan, and just got nathuz for xmas.

Sometimes we just play one set. Sometimes we link the entire thing together.

It's a very good little game.

/the yellow barbarian guy sucks tho, and the wizard guy is a little overpowered
