According to IFI Claims Patent Services, a company that maintains global patent databases, nearly 224,505 utility patents were awarded in the U.S. last year, jumping 2 percent over the previous year's record-breaking tally of 219,614 patents.

Well, that's just because they rubber-stamp "approve" on everything!

Applications filed in 2010: 510,060
Applications filed in 2011: 536,604, up 5%

Allowance rate, including RCEs = 46.7%

Uh...

They were all filed by patent trolls, small and large.
Hence the speed.

Speed? The backlog is currently at a 2 year delay before an application even gets looked at.

The first move of the Patent War of 2021 has begun,

To arms my brothers, once the corporations finish buying the governments they will us them as a fee based army

everything in life will be patented and they will demand payment, making the common man a slave

pirate now and distribute my friends

Who is with me?

We attack Big blue at dawn, well more like noonish

Heh, just got a letter from the USPTO today. They estimate that an application filed in 2010 will get a first OA in 13 months. 2 years sound pretty good right about now.

I had one that got picked up at about the 13 month date from filing... Didn't realize it until I went to pull a copy of the published version for reference and... no published version. :)

Examiner even admitted that he picked it up out of turn and didn't quite know why.

Quit complaining. We've got a few promising cures for cancer, we've made it to another planet, and we're what looks like 2 years away from fully-functional augmented reality.

You would've crashed your stupid flying car anyway.

Patents, subby, not scientific revolutions or physical breakthroughs. The way we're going, we'll patent every combination of infinite 1s and 0s but we'll still drive cars on roads right here on this planet.

Still waiting for my patent to finalize. Got a patent on a real Voltron. No, really.
