It is annoying when people bring their dogs into stores, just the other day I was at tractor supply where we usually get grain for the horses and we have it stacked on the flatbed cart thing and this lady with her dog dragging her around the store gets the leash caught and the dog pulls the cart into some other lady's shin.

How the hell did her face get close enough to the dog for it to bite? Either the owner was carrying the dog, and she put her face near the dog or the dog is a bionic Shih Tzu able to leap 5 feet.
And just why was this added to the story? In what reporter's universe is that relevant?
Two days before Riel was attacked, a pitbull killed a Shih Tzu.
That dog, Tyrus, was put down

The agreement was reached three months ago but
Riel isn't revealing exactly how much money she's received
but said it's the "normal" amount.
"I guess the regular range of a dog bite settlement in that type of thing is about $35,000," said Riel.
I think $35,000 is pretty specific. What was the writer looking for? $35,097? $33,346?

Those lapdogs are always high strung, it's a byproduct of the breeding. I've only been bitten by a dog twice in my life and both times it was a lapdog. Those farkers hang on, I had to bang one of them on a door jamb to get it to unlock it's jaw.

Unless it's a trained guard dog, If you're dog bites and injures someone, it is your fault, end of story. It is your responsibility to properly train and control your animal, not the responsibility of the rest of the world to make sure they don't offend your precious.

I don't think it's just that they're high strung by nature/breeding. It's also that a lot of the people that *get* tiny dogs don't actually bother to TRAIN them properly. They think it's 'cute' when they nip at people and act aggressive, becase "Oh, they're so little, they can't REALLY do any damage". Hell, they almost *encourage* the behavior. So you get an aggressive, uncontrolled dog.

It's not the breeding. It's the lack of training. The owners are lazy and let the little shiats get all pushy and start thinking that they're the boss because it's AWW adorable when it growls and acts like it owns the place. What the fark is wrong with people when it comes to dogs?
You wouldn't walk up and try to scratch a random 6 year old child on the chin, or try to rub noses with the garbage man, or run up and bear hug a stranger at the bus stop.
But suddenly an animal with sharp teeth and claws comes within view and all sensibility goes out the window.

I'm amazed at how often people take liberties with tiny dogs. They just think it's ok to do whatever they want with them. At my old place I had a neighbor with two young mini-dachshunds and we'd go on walks or to dog parks together. I would see people just come up to us and without asking just pick up one of her dogs and gush all over them without asking if they could. It was unbelievable. If they picked up the male, fine, he loved being held and getting showered with baby talk and affection. If it was the girl? She'd nip and bark because she hated strangers and of course the offender would be the one to take issue and chastise my neighbor for having a mean dog.

Well, the shih tzu was on edge after hearing of the attack. So he interpreted the woman's trying to pet him as an attack and acted to defend himself. Really that's just common sense and I'm surprised the shih tzu's owner was not able to use it to get the case dismissed.

I should be responsible for training my dog to handle normal interactions with humans and other animals properly, not to be able to sniff out morons actively seeking a Darwin award.

I've got an 80lbs pit mix, and she knows for a fact who's in charge. Truth is, dogs want you to be in charge because being pack leader is stressful.
Parent's little lap/rat dog thinks it's in charge, until I come over and don't take it's shiat, and they all think I am "mean," lol.

Owners know the temperament of their pet more than anyone else and have a legal duty to act accordingly, including leaving Cujo at home if he doesn't play well with other people or pets, or is prone to attack unprovoked.

Aye, although sadly my GF's (although I start to thinkof him as 'mine' now, as well. I am slowly being turned into a dog person) terrier mix tends to get left home alone for a few hours each day-one of us staying home is something neither of us can do yet. Nevertheless, we play with him when we get home, and take him on long walks. Food toys seem to help, too. It's weird: I've heard terriers tend to be pretty stand-offish with other dogs, but he's generally *really* friendly.

I don't understand this mentality. Do you randomly assault humans? Why would you treat dogs any differently? If a dog is loose or the owner allows it enough leash slack to attack someone else that is the owners fault.
If you purposely approach and assault a dog to satisfy your own stupid irrational desires without considering the dog has its own thoughts and emotions you're an asshole and quit literally could lead to a perfectly normal dog being killed because you place your own impulses above the personal space of someone else's pet.

She's allowed to spend that money on whatever she wants. You get your face bit off, you get some money. What, because she was able to afford her medical bills at that time, or because her insurance covered it, she's not due any money for losing a nose? Oh, ok then.
I also missed the part where it says she bought a pitbull.
