Given the other GOP candidates, you can't really call Colbert a "joke" candidate.

2012-01-11 11:40:54 AM
I think that says more about the local intelligence of the populace.

Stephen Colbert: Establishing bad precedents since 2008!

/Up next, the Jay Leno Super PAC.

Does this make them more or less intelligent?

Actually, it says a lot about the tards that live in South Carolina.

If he's not running, what's he doing with his PAC cash? Or did I miss "the joke?"

And Ditka would poll at 20% in Illinois, and Arnold won the Governorship of Cal, and Reagan was president... this just in celebrities (even those who are lesser known) are generally more liked than politicians. Yawn...

He runs on an anti-bear policy

The difference between Colbert (the character) and genuine GOP candidates is that Colbert occasionally displays a modicum of human decency.

And will occasionally laugh at the stupidity coming out of his own mouth.

He wouldn't make it. They already decide they can only have comedians running as GOP candidates.

I think Colbert is from South Carolina so I suppose it's not completely unexplainable, though it is still wierd that Republicans some would choose a liberal lampooner of right-wing idocy and notable enemy in the culture war. Is this just more evidence that right-wingers are more interested in ethnocentrism than principle?

Gave himself the Colbert bump.

Lucky for the GOP that Stephen Colbert is not the kind of person who would ever mention this on his show and stoke it up to the point where he actually finishes second behind Romney

Dunno: Good family man. Family tragedy in the past. Solid conservative credentials. Practicing Catholic.

Colbert's basically the anti-Santorum.

They never have. See: Colbert hosting the White House Correspondents' Dinner.

This makes me wonder what proportion of registered party members at any given time are actually just trolls or "double agents" there to fark with the party...anyone know if there are any numbers on that?

Muta: Perhaps they don't understand that he is lampooning them.

After the correspondence dinner performance years back are they really still confused about him?

I can't wait to see more commercials from his Super PAC, especially when the frontrunner emerges. Colbert is a master of walking that fine line where it looks like he's commending someone when in fact he's actually taking a dig at them.

2012-01-11 12:20:17 PM
Why is the GOP so upset about their gaggle of goons? I mean, they spent over thirty years chasing away the "impure" and "RINO"s out of their party and nurturing the derp with loving care for decades.

Is it no wonder that after all of that, that in the end, their Perfect Republican (by their rigid standards where even being only "99% conservative" wasn't good enough) would be the likes of a double-adulterer like Newt Gingrich, a murdering secessionist like Rick Perry, and RON PAUL ('Nuff said on that creep)?

Does the SC primary even allow write-in candidates?

I wasn't going to even bother to vote, but if I have an option of a non-insance candidate, I might just take off an hour or two off.

If Romners wins, does he pay part of his presidential salary to the Momos? If so, doesn't that suck?

Benq: If Romners wins, does he pay part of his presidential salary to the Momos? If so, doesn't that suck?

Since it's his salary, he can do whatever he wants with it. I'd be more impressed if, since he's a multimillionaire, took a page from Bloomberg and a salary of $1/year while in office. No, it won't fix the deficit, but it's a nice gesture.

Yeah, but it's South Carolina. This is the state's 2nd most popular Republican:

Doesn't SC have an "open" primary, wherein Democrats can cast votes as well? That would explain it. Hopefully.

No, there are way too many conservatives that do not understand that Colbert is a comic. I've had people quote him while trying to make a point.

Colbert the character or person? The person might have apprehensions about it, but the character would love it. Hell, he tried to host the d@mn thing in the first place. Plus, such a high finish would ride into his serious classy republican debate hosted on nat geo/animal planet, perhaps even with a special debate appearance by Colbert himself

Isn't he from there?

Not that amazing that a local celebrity will be popular in write-in polls.

Colbert's potential candidacy is marred by his inability to secure the bear vote.

"Oh, of COURSE he was! Otherwise, what other theory could there be, that I and my associates hand-picked a patsy for an easy win in a charade of the democratic process where the districts have already been drawn up so that Republicans have a seemingly eternal stronghold among some of the most bigoted and ignorant voters in the land? No, heh-heh, obviously the good and honorable Mr. Greene was a Democrat!"

The problem if Colbert won would be that the republican party would simply throw the results and say whoever came in second was the actual winner. Then they'd start harping on about how democrats and independents and illegal aliens without picture ID's came in and sabotaged their primary.

My response to which would be, if it's your primary, home come I paid for it through my tax dollars? That's the reasoning for not allowing insurance plans on a privately paid for exchange if they happen to cover abortions, isn't it? If I paid for an election, I should be able to vote for whoever I damn well please; be it Romney, Gingrich, Frothy Mix, Colbert, or hell, even Obama.
