Oh, good. I was wondering if Occupy had disappeared from the media spotlight all together.

I like them. At their best, they get people talking about our national problems. At their worst, they make for hilarious Fark threads.

From the picture it's evident they learned to focus their efforts in a more constructive direction.

"Hi, mom!"

I wouldn't worry about it, since they won't get kicked out unless they actually "do" something. They haven't yet and don't seem likely to in the future.

How did that go again?

First they ignore you.
Then they laugh at you.
Then they fight you.
Then they laugh at you some more.
Then they ignore you again.
Then you go back to your dorm and tell Mom you need gas money for the Lexus.

It was fun while it lasted. Ah, the good old days of listening to the left compare themselves to Gandhi while collectively spanking it because "The Revolution" had finally come.

Good that these people are trying to keep it going, the problems like wealth inequality and bank bailouts are good issues to be protesting unlike protesting that some poor people are going to have access to healthcare.

That was my thought as well. Doesn't "do something" imply some form of action on their part? Aside from drumming and rape, I mean...

Most of these "protestors" are angry at the economy, and just don't know who to blame. They blame Wall Street, only because it was a convenient enemy which was made "evil" by the liberal media.

Main cause of the bad economy? Housing crisis.
Cause of the housing crisis? Barney Frank (D), Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, and the government subsidizing bad loans and giving investors incentives to make bad loans.
Interesting how quickly everyone seems to forget that and instead just wants to blame big banks and Wall Street.

Republicans and the "big banks" actually wanted to put more regulation on lending to prevent bad loans, but the Democrats would have none of it.

See the video: Video Link (new window)

So now, these people, instead of trying to better themselves are just going to sit and biatch and cry and wait and hope the government helps them and gives them more and more, when ironically (for all those hipsters at OWS) it is the government that caused most of the problem in the first place.

How long have they been there now protesting? If some of them spent just one-third of that time walking around looking for help wanted ads (yes, they do exist), they could be a lot better. Try to help yourself instead of complaining that you're not super wealthy right of college.

Or, you know, their parents or grandparents bought them an iPhone for xmas. Or maybe they work a crappy $9/hr job and live three to a flat and that's their only luxury item?

I know quite a few people who are a bit on the broke side but have smartphones. They don't have computers or landlines. It's kind of hard to get anywhere today without a phone and a computer. If you have access to a library, you can get away without the computer, but it's difficult.

The main cause of the housing crisis was wage stagnation. Demand would have dried up and housing would have crashed if the bad loans weren't made. Granted, making those loans was like shredding the credit card bill so the husband doesn't find it. It doesn't solve the problem, but maybe you can get the alimony amount set before he figures it out.

except: More than 84 percent of the subprime mortgages came from private lending institutions in 2006 and the share of subprime loans insured by Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac decreased as the bubble got bigger (from a high of insuring 48 percent to insuring 24 percent of all subprime loans in 2006).

Using the phrase "against your own interests" will earn my unwavering opposition to anything you propose, because fark you, that's why. It is just the left's version of "both sides are bad".

I have quite a few friends whom are developers or work for marketing firms whom make $100k+ who are actively involved in OWS. They volunteer their services from home during the week (after work) and show up at the protest during the weekend. I don't know any hippies or bums involved. Judging on my anecdotal evidence at the scene, maybe 1/4 of the people aren't employed. Many freelance while protesting, or only protest on weekends. As long as you have internet access, most people can still work w/o being at an office.

I can't argue against concentrating all of that wealth out of the economy in general makes the economy far less robust and able to function when there are bubbles etc. around, but otherwise please show your work when you make such a statement. This sounds a little rhetorical than anything else.

So the fact that wages in the classes of people and their respective occupations which traditionally allowed them to purchase housing could not keep up with the rise in housing costs and effectively priced them out of the market via the traditional loan route had nothing to do with the subprime mortgage boom?

If Subprime never happened, the massive runup in housing costs during the mid '00s never would have happened. The demand would not have been there. There would have been a slight correction following the .com bubble burst.

If people can't afford to buy housing they're not buying it. And wages are the less-elastic than housing prices.
