That's not too strange. Here in KC, a popular station, "KY102," changed to a "professional woman" format from it's "classic/modern rock" format and fired the staff. An easy-listening (coma music) station, 99.7, dumped it's entire staff and format to get everyone they could from 102, spawning the new 99.7KY.

Personally, I listen to NPR or MP3's, so it didn't make too much difference to me.

Maybe this is why Drew is looking for some capital. FARK radio 101, All Fark all the time.

He'd have to deal with those damn advertising voice talent yahoos (which is why live streaming has been stopped in some markets).

I always preferred KZON anyway.

This is weird, is "The Edge" a universal name for alternative rock stations?

2001-11-08 10:25:07 AM
Yep. So is "Kiss," "The Fox," "Star," and "Mix."

Living on the edge...of WUSS CLIFF!

2001-11-08 10:30:57 AM
This happens all the time in radio.

Jph: Does that mean they're teetering on the edge and about to fall into Wussland or that they're currently in Wussland and may fall into something even wussier? It could really go either way.

Just curious.

Yep fark radio would be the logical next step. Considering fark.com sounds a lot like talk radio nowadays.

What is it with Arizona?

anyone else remember the USFL, when the Arizona Wranglers traded their entire team to Chicago for the entire Chicago roster?

2001-11-08 11:03:05 AM
Better question: Does anyone remember the USFL?

Too bad they didnt have such great personalities as "He Hate Me"

Henchman: What's a "professional woman" format? What do they play?

Radio is so weird.

It's ok, both those stations suck anyway. The old KPTY was a Top 40 type station with shiatty repecption and the EDJ had Identity issues between alternative to main stream rock to punk.

Could the phrase "temporarily, if not longer" be any more vague? </chandler>

This happened a few years ago in the Bay Area too. There were two "modern rock" stations, and when one (whose name I forget) closed down, Live 105 fired their staff and hired on all the staff from the other station.

Makes it rather obvious that the other station was, in fact, better.

"Professional Women" formats seem to consist of light eightieshiats, lots of Phil Collins, Bryan Adams, and at least one Celene Dion song per hour.

2001-11-08 11:33:35 AM
Hee-hee. I guess I should have said "light hits of the eighties" to avoid the filter.

2001-11-08 11:44:32 AM
Henchman: I don't know, "light eightieshiats" sums it up for me.

FalconRed- The other station was 98.5 KOME which in now KFOX.

I miss the old Live 105. They were a really progressive station in fact I believe they had the term Modern Rock tradmarked. Live 105 used to push music that no one else would play. THey had one day that I miss most of all No repeat Thursdays. Imagine a station that played other songs then the flavor of the month of a bands album.

Now days I hear the same crap that I hear everywhere else. It's a shame that a stion that does it's own thing has to get bought up and changed.

The other funny thing about the KOME/LIVE 105 deal is that before the merger Howard Stern was on KOME and his ratings were piss poor and LIVE 105's Alex Bennett ruled the morning. In fact the Howard Stern show was pulled from the Bay Area for Almost 4 years before the KOME/Live 105 Merger. It was a nice 4 years not having to listen to that pompus ass Stern.

Ahhh....KOME....Alex Bennet & Denis Erectus...Yup, times was good back then...

My first visit to SF, travelling from the airport, with the tagline, Have KOME all over the radio..

3M TA3: This happens all the time in radio.

Yes indeedie-doo. I know from experience. If you are air talent at a radio station, you actually expect to be fired every six months.

Ask Darien O'Toole. When she worked here in the SF Bay Area, she kicked Alex Bennet (of Live 105's) butt so hard that they finally fired him before they killed the rest of their staff. Didn't matter to the coporate owners of her raido station, which was #1 in Morning Drive and #2 for a music station. Nope. One week after the ratings came out, they all got fired.

I worked for a radio station in the midwest doing weekday grave. I found out I was fired when I came to work on a Monday and found out my key didn't work in the door anymore. The new owners fired everyone, even the receptionist.

That's the biz.

Heck, Rat_Bastard, does anyone here remember KLOK from the mid 80's?

Charliex
Actualy the tag line was (in a Cheech Martin voice)
Ewwwwwwwwww man, don't touch that dial, it's got KOME (pronounced cum) on it. Greatest tag line ever.

Funny. There is like four of five stations here that all pretty much the same. I have them programmed into my radio in the car and flip through them every once in a while when I'm bored. I could'nt tell you which was which, since they pretty much play the same songs (some seem to play 80s more then others).

A few days ago, I noticed one of them is now Spanish. Other then the fact that I have one less crappy station to pick from, it really does'nt effect me. I did'nt know what happened, nor really cared.

Leave it up to fark to give you the scoop on things you don't care about in your own back yard.
