Well, that tends to happen when the penalty for losing is execution.

2012-01-11 01:06:51 PM
Only volleyball could make athletic women in kneepads boring.

2012-01-11 01:09:53 PM
I counted 31 instances where the ball passed over the net.

I can dig it

Yet they have to have a tour bus because if they all drove their own cars they'd never get out of the parking lot.

2012-01-11 01:20:31 PM
Amazing. Each half of the court was completely protected until one team found the tiniest chink in the armor.

2012-01-11 01:27:52 PM
The Chinese are serious about their volleyball. It might be the only team sport where they're competitive internationally.

2012-01-11 01:31:21 PM
Bad shot selections and poor setting. Not much else.

I did, too... pretty sweet rally.

Hear, hear! I watched a lot of womens' volleyball when I was at Penn State. Besides the fact that they're hot, that squad has been dominating suckas for a long time.

i see what you do there

That was really boring but could have been made more interesting by using a tilt shift camera from the same location.

How come we don't have more tilt shift sports broadcasting?

Then we could also have computers render in little plastic bases under every player like this guy has:

absolutelygps.com

Also, roomba/frogger cams for women's volleyball. That would be neat too.

Hey, I'm just brainstorming....

one six foot american woman would have put an stop to that crap.

I was going to make a short joke, but I would wager most of these women (at least up front and on the wings) are pushing 6'

Normally volleyball bores me to tears, even the barely there uniform women's beach volleyball but that was pretty damned impressive. Reactions and reflexes of a cat on display.

2012-01-11 03:08:13 PM
Meh, that's nothing compared to the game I played on my kinect last night.

2012-01-11 03:18:19 PM
That was great

2012-01-11 03:34:00 PM
I thought that is called a "volley" not a rally. Hence the name.

2012-01-11 03:42:40 PM
That was good, but I am going to want to see it again in an hour.

Land Ark: I thought that is called a "volley" not a rally. Hence the name.

A "volley' is one hit back over the net, a rally is what you call the series of hits.

/at least that's what my sister said when she played volleyball

Was one of those girls playing on the wrong team?

That's the libero, who can only make defensive moves or something like that.

Indeed. More importantly, there's basically free substitution with her; whereas in general a player can sub in and out only in the same spot in the rotation, the libero does not have that restriction, nor do her substitutions count against the team limit.

Not just pushing, but many if not most are over 6'.

Tianjin (new window)

Uh, the crowd?

Assuming you are at a women's Chinese league volleyball match, and something like that happens, how do you not go completely batshiat?

Instead, the golf clap from a seated position. Asia is weird.

I played Intramural vb in college (yes, I know). We were very good, but got completely trashed by a team of Chinese students who only played with five guys instead of six. Met them again in the finals, and lost a close match even though only four of them showed up.

Best part of story - with the Chinese team leading in the last game, one of their guys left to go study. So we lost to a three-man team in the end.

Reminds me of when I foolishly tried out for my high school's badminton team in Vancouver during the mid-90's when half my school was straight off the plane from Hong Kong. I thought it would be a fun way stay in shape between football and baseball season, plus I was the best player at family BBQ's, so I thought, why not? I showed up to tryouts and saw all these scrawny, 5'-nothing kids I had never even seen or noticed before and chuckled because I didn't think they could even reach the top of the net. Well, I guess it doesn't matter how tall you are when you can jump like a cricket and hit the shuttlecock fast enough to leave welts on your opponents.

I can still remember the sounds their rackets made as they cut through the air and the shuttlecocks whistling towards me. I assume it sounds similar to what Leonidas heard during the last volley of arrows at Thermopylae.

Not a single attempt to tool off the block and out of bounds. There were at least 5 opportunities to end the point in that manner. The left side hitter on the left side of court alone had 3. None taken or attempted=bad shot selection. It looked like a rally for the sake of having a rally.

As soon as I would be paid enough to justify it.
