(TMZ)   Studio changed Gina Carano's voice in new movie Haywire because they didn't like the way she sounded. Like anyone's going to be paying attention to what she says, anyway   (tmz.com) divider line 83

Dear Lord I can't wait to see this movie.

Me too. She's friggin' hot.

/will probably wait for netflix.

2012-01-11 11:43:19 AM
I did have a feeling they made her sound more masculine in the trailer. That sucks, can't they just deal with a physically fit woman who is also feminine?

2012-01-11 11:45:58 AM
The movie looks good except for her godawful acting. Even when she's doing nothing but sitting there looking around without talking, the acting is cringe worthy.

Here are the first 5 minutes of the film. Link (new window)

Cool action scene, horrible acting.

2012-01-11 11:47:03 AM
How idiotic. It's not as if she's more baritone than Barry White, for goodness sake.

2012-01-11 11:51:26 AM
I don't think I've ever been so excited for a motion picture in my life. From what I've seen of the movie, her acting is not bad enough to distract me from the fact that it's 2 hours of the camera pointed at Gina Carano looking like a badass and beating people up.

2012-01-11 11:53:17 AM
when I saw the trailer, first thing I said was "wow, that's a manly voice"...

/yes she's hot, but to me, it looks like "Bourne; The Vagina Revenge"

2012-01-11 11:54:04 AM
Maybe, she didn't emote correctly. I'm sure that fact doesn't bother many here, but Directors like to actually attempt to make quality films. Sure, she's beefy enough, but maybe she doesn't have the chops to say the lines while hulking out, or even during her pre-hulking phases. It's not like singers today actually sing.

2012-01-11 11:55:25 AM
Seeing as I don't ever really see women's MMA on TV, I still only really know her voice from American Gladiators.

And that's not much.

'GLADIATOR READY?'
'yup.'

Here's a comparison of her actual voice and that in the movie. Definitely a lot manlier in the movie.

My general guess would be they probably mostly dropped the pitch because she was overly shrill or something. I doubt it has much to do with masculinity, probably more making her sound older and/or less annoying.

That could be it too. She definitely is not an actress, so her voice was never a part of her career. Just look at Mike Tyson, if he wasn't a boxer who knows how his life would have gone.

Ok, look. Any girl who has what is going on there and says she got her start from drinking a 40 of OE with friends is ok in my book.

Holy cow. That acting was really similar to high-budget porn. I'm ok with that, though. As long as she's nekkid at some point in the movie.

I'd let her put me in a rear naked choke.

She's probably a horrible actress, but it's nice to see a female action hero who is actually believable. None of this Burn Notice chick who weighs less than the shotgun she's pumping and all that silliness.

This. Let's face it, all of us have seen worse acting (Nicolas Cage, I'm looking at you), but Gina Carano kicking ass and looking good doing it is instant win for me.

I auditioned her for a show hosting gig a few years ago. She was a nice person, but obviously hadn't done anything in front of the camera before, besides beating the shiat out of people. Zero training, couldn't take direction, didn't know what she was doing. Nice girl, but we had to pass on her.

So seeing her star in a movie now, by a decent director, is a pretty big shock. But I'm going to assume she went out and got some acting lessons.

good lord this. Salt. Columbiana. Hanna.

Little girls beating the shiat out of big men is just laughable. Hell, I'd wager I could beat Zoe to a farking pulp, and I have no combat or fighting training whatsoever. If you aren't magic (Buffy) or enhanced (River) little girls beating up 200+ pound men just makes me giggle.

yeah, any time i see some 110 pound girl in a film flip a man that probably weighs 190-220 pounds over their shoulder i pretty much check out. it would be more like in the old Andy Griffith show in that episode when Barney tries a martial arts move on Andy and --- wait for it --- can't budge the man.

i am all for strong female leads in films, but if you must make your action star a women, she needs to be like Ripley in Aliens. Ripley never kicked anyone's ass, and got her ass handed to her a couple times and needed a man's assistance.

Never heard of her. Looked her up on Youtube etc. And yes. She's hot, but I temper that with the idea that she's taking shots to the head. Which in turn will royally f)ck your brain up in a very short period of time. So, she'll be beautiful and won't remember her name in a couple of years and her hands will shake like an 80 year old.

I'm with you when it is just some super average looking chick who knows how to kick ass just because the role calls for it. But someone above said they could take on a girl trained fighter. No you can't. A trained fighter would destroy an average joe, even if you outweighed them by quite a bit. Look at Jackass for reference on how that can go.

Yeah, how about no. I'm all for realistic fights, including getting an ass handed back when whoever she is goes up against someone too big, but there are ways of handling that without "needing a man's assistance".

That a small trained person could defeat a big untrained person, so all this bluster about "little girls beating the shiat out of big men" appears to come solely out of either ignorance or sexism.
