So he was using a jetski ALONE, off the coast (not a lake or recreation area?),and apparently outside of a well traveled area without a small PLB, or Marine VHF radio? Double dumbass on him.

Spend the $175 and get one of these so you can call for help. if 6W isn't enough, you're too far away to be on a jet ski by yourself.
