I understand that some people should get divorced, but it hasn't even been two years since gay marriage licenses started being issued in Washington D.C.
Maybe they should just be happy with what they've got. Hopefully they just want the freedom to get divorced if they choose to.

The next time that the Mormons sent 12-year-old girls to my house in some "defense of marriage" petition drive, I'm going to say: "Go home and kill any relatives who have had a divorce. That'll defend marriage."

The Goodriches, the couple that sued the state of Massachusetts and won the right to marry each other, were divorced just five years after the wedding.
Apparently, the strain of ushering in a new era of civil rights in this country hurt their relationship.

We went through this stupidity in Rhode Island while I was still there. It's just ridiculous.
Just amend the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and be done with it already. Enough political jackassery.

FTFA: The bill would let gay couples who married in Washington get divorced even if they no longer live in the district, provided they live somewhere that would not recognize their divorce. Under current law, one member of the divorcing couple has to live in Washington for six months before starting divorce proceedings.
Yea that whole states rights thing and separate yet equal is working out so well we need more laws.
/I'm sick of this. Let any couple get married or none.
//special laws needed show it isn't equal.

that should be a pretty simple bill to pass, since gays can't marry anyway.

There are some golden comments.
Who will pay the gay child-support for each couple's mass of adopted designer-babies from every continent?
Gay men are being deprived of their God given constitutional right to have an abortion...Until this is remedied, they will never be equal.
The only people who really ever cared about Gay Marriage were Trial Lawyers and Divorce Attorneys.
The idea that all these gays were just dying to engage in Holy Matrimony nonsense from he start. A make work program for DNC connected lawyers.

Marriage is a tripartite contract to extend the bonds of family by law instead of by blood. The religious bit is entirely extraneous.

Because they give you a license, but it's a bit backwards: A driver's license will let you go anywhere. A marriage license makes you stay put.

While marriages may or may not take place in a place of worship, ALL divorces take place in a court of law, which is proof that all "marriages" are legal entities, rather than religious constructs. Further, all marriages are civil unions; but not all civil unions are marriages.
Denying two consenting adults the ability to join together in such a civil union impedes their civil rights.
