33% of South Carolina voters think corporations are people?

But when those people get together, they form like Voltron to make a wealthy, connected person that has rights more important than yours.

Yes, even red staters are against unrestricted corporate personhood. This is a winnable fight if we keep pushing.

Well to be fair 33% of South Carolinians think possum is a traditional thanksgiving meal and that foosball is the devil.

I honestly cannot fathom why anyone would think a corporation is a person. Even the corporate owners who spout this garbage are doing it because they're dishonest.

I hate the fact the corps can weasel out this way, but if they aren't "people", then the real people at the corps have to take the hit for the things the corps do. You know that every chance they get, the big toads are going to throw some little administrative/clerical froggie under the big fat tires of the law. If the corps are people, only the corp takes the hit, and it's usually a clawback of their filthy lucre.

I follow California politics pretty closely (from there). I do believe there is an anti-corporate personhood initiative making it's way around the state. Unfortunately it's tied to some legislative budget initiative that I don't know will get passed.

If you ever want a good laugh, read some of these proposed initiatives sometimes. They're hilarious.
One was an initiative to make the Bible some special protected speech that would trump everything else.

People who continue to oppose corporate personhood either have no understanding of what it is or have not thought through the implications of ending it.

Do you really think because people are working together they should be giving up equal protection rights?

/limited liability is not an aspect of corporate personhood,

Then the entire input of every person in the 'group' should have equal say in the decision of the corporation's 'speech', not just the people in charge.

They don't get to right to vote, can't contribute to campaigns, what right are they getting that they would not get imputed from the individual rights of the owners? Are you really upset that they can hypothetically allow an individual to own more liquor licenses?

If it is political spending that upsets you, would you prefer political position ads to be available only to the super rich (e.g. the Koch brothers) and not groups banded together?

They are allowed 0 dollars in campaign contributions. They cannot contribute to PACs. The rules for their political spending are much more restricted than yours.

After watching the first video and getting the full context, I have to say the guy heckling Romney is an idiot. All Romney was saying is that corporate money is ultimately for human beings and corporate taxes come out of the money for human beings, which is an indisputable, if uninteresting, statement. They guy seems to think that corporate coffers go to some alien in the sky or something. He is free to argue that most of the money in corporations goes to rich human beings and, as such, should be subject to higher taxes under our progressive system; but to laugh derisively at the basic statement that it's money for "people" is just plain retarded. And now, of course, the quote is being taken completely out of context and turned into some kind of statement of corporate personhood or defense of Citizens United; it's no such thing.

We are returning to a "company town" style of living except all towns (and governments) are controlled by banks.

And you cannot escape. Try living "outside of society" and see how long you stay "free".
