Yup, same here. Never hung over, never missed work, never done something stupid beyond making a fool of myself at times- but all in good fun.

Not closeted or embarassed about it. If I'm visiting the parents or in-laws, I call ahead and make sure they're stocked with vodka and ginger ale.

If you are serious- you are addicted to alcohol, my freind.

I'm addicted to alcohol. I can quit whenever I want... but why would I?

You gotta be kidding me. I'm heading over to my brother's place where I will drink at least four drinks, then head to 20 cent wing night at the bar, where I'll drink four more, then back to my place where I'll probably have another four. That's almost my whole month's quota in just one night.

Because you need to see a doctor and get medication that's why. Only someone who has paid too much money for an education can tell a complete stranger what is best for them. Seek help.

Nope. I like my lifestyle. I don't need alcohol to get through the day, I just enjoy ending the day with 4-5 drinks while watching documentaries and/or sports.

This is old news for anyone in the Air Force (and possibly the military as a whole). I remember a few years ago they had the 0-0-1-3 campaign (or something like that).

0 underage drinking offenses
0 drinking and driving incidents
1 or fewer drinks an hour
3 drinks in a night

I swear to God I'm not making this up.

I was listening in on a US grad student speaker in one of our new international student orientation events came and "told" the students about alcohol. Mind you, in the countries these students are coming from the drinking age is under 21, so most of them could drink legally in their own countries before coming here. She stood up in front of them and said that after drinking more than one drink you will start to feel sick. Really? What kind of bullshiat "study" did you find this in?

When you call your relatives to make sure they are stocked with alcohol- it points to not being able to go without a few days. That is addiction. It's painfully obvious.

We rarely have a family gathering without some kind of booze. I should also mention my mothers side is very German and my fathers side is Irish. That and we live in Wisconsin.

Only 38 million? I quite seriously would have guessed the number to be closer to 100 million. In this part of the country, the only reason most people wouldn't have four drinks on Saturday night is because they're still farked up from Friday night.

/Granted, it takes a lot of Minnesotas and Wisconsins to arrive at a total of 38 million, but we are for sure doing our part.

yeah, but there's addiction and then addiction. sure being a high functioning alcoholic is bad for your long-term health, but so are a lot of things folks are free to do (or not do) in america. on the other hand the folks that can't hold a job, blackout constantly, destroy relationships, and worse, have a form of addition that is more immediately destructive and should seek help immediately.

I can and have gone a few days without. I choose not to do that very often. Drinking is something I enjoy. Maybe you enjoy exercise, television, video games and engage in such nearly every day. More power to you.

I "quit" binge drinking a year or so ago, and cut down from drinking high octane barleywines and such to pilsner. I drink damn near every night, but only a beer or two...maybe three if I'm feeling frisky. My feeling is if you can put reasonable rules on it in order to keep if from adversely affecting your life/work/relationships--and stick to them most of the time--you'll probably be ok and mind/body/liver/family will thank you. Of course, getting a DUI, having a kid, and working through college make cutting back a lot easier.

One of the big rules I instituted that helped me cut way back was "no booze until at least dinner time."

Weird how that works. I personally have never been able to handle the "clear" spirits (vodka, Bacardi rum, white tequila) else I turn into a porcelain worshipper. But put me on the scotch, bourbon, or a half-decent whiskey and I can drink the night away.

Always wanted to see if the aversion extends to Moonshine as well, but never lived in a place where such a thing was available. Sounds like a roadtrip is in order soon...for SCIENCE.

A Fark Handle: four drinks, four times a month? so 16 drinks? sheeeet, that's called tuesday...

Not how it works.

If you're drinking 4+ drinks, then yeah, you're drinking to get drunk. It's pretty much binge drinking.

If you're doing that 4 times a month, you're probably doing it every weekend.

/drink maybe one beer a day, maybe a couple with friends

Those are the goals - if you're over 25, then grow up and realize that drinking a ton isn't really something to be proud of.

I fully support the right to drink and I think it's okay to drink as much as you want. I also have no problem with looking down on people who think that alcohol is the greatest thing in the world and that everyone should drink more.
