I think the firefighters should adopt the cat.

I don't let my cats roam the neighborhood. I built an admittedly goofy-looking "catio" on my back deck and put a bunch of planter boxes filled with grass out there. The cats can sputter at the birds all they want, roll in the sun, and barf enormous grassy hairballs to their hearts' content. I don't have to worry about them napping in a warm car engine.

My cats have free access to a 1,000 square foot screen enclosure. They lounge quite happily. I don't have any plants out there, though. Should I look into that?

This happened to my dad once. I mean he found a cat stuck in his car, not that he was caught in there himself.
That poor kitty was sliced up real bad, but the vet saved her and we took her home.

For some reason, my cat is afraid of cars. Even though the reason might not be entirely rational, I like the outcome.
Oh God. I'm glad the cat wasn't torn to bits.

If it were my car, there'd be nothing left of the cat. The radio starts with my car, and it's always loud. But as someone who loves teh kittehs, if one did get under the hood and got ground up into widdle kitty bits, I'd go into hysterics. The bad kind.
But if they saved it, I'd offer to adopt it, hoping it might forgive me.

Casual acquaintances. They think it's "cruel" to keep him locked inside.
Besides the coyotes, there are bobcats, and assholes driving way too fast down our street.
Both highly detrimental to my lil' buddy's continued existence.

My dad once made the 15 mile drive to work with a possum with spawn under the hood. Seems they camped out on the radiator cover. It took a long glove and a stick to drive them out, but they made the commute just fine.

I don't get the "It's cruel to keep a cat indoors" people. Your cat is a domestic pet, not a wild animal. Although it could probably fend for itself in the wild, why would you leave its care to chance? Keep it inside, away from cars & wilder animals.

Heh...the neighbors have an outdoor kitty that looks just like ours. Last week he was on our porch. My daughter chased after him, thinking he was our cat, trying to capture him and get him back inside.
That neighbor cat was like, WTF, man.

This happened to me one time. Was in a parking lot & saw 2 ppl milling around a car. They + me & my bf managed to retrieve 2-10 wk old kittens that had hitched a ride that morning (there was this small ledge on the underside of th car they could sit on). One kitty's ear was burned. The owner (who we found at work in the restaurant) was so upset.

We had a cat do that. She made it, but only after a horrible screeching sound and a lot of black fluff in the air. Shaved a strip down her back.

CSB time.
My aunt started her car once after their cat had crawled on top of the engine. She freaked out and called my dad over to help get it out. He ended up putting it out of its misery with a claw hammer in front of my aunt and her 5 year old daughter. They were horrified.

I popped the hood of my truck the other day to change my air filter and saw cat foot prints all over the top of my engine.
Now I smack my hood a couple of times before I get in and start it up.

When I lived in DC a friend of the family(a veterinarian, luckily) had a story like this.
He had an old 70's model car with one of those big circular air filters over the carb. One snowy morning on his commute to work he kept hearing these weird sounds coming from his engine compartment. When he got to work, he popped the hood and sitting on the air filter compartment was a very angry, scared, and dirty long-haired cat. Aside from some matted hair and lightly toasted paws, the cat was just fine.

Aren't some cats agoraphobic? We just adopted a little beauty about a year & a half old and she puffs up and sings nononono when I take her outside. I'm hoping this will pass, as I am not enjoying this litterbox business. This is my first time posting on Caturday and I'd appreciate any good advice. Yeah, I know it's tuesday, but everyday is caturday when there's a litterbox in your office!
