Fostering a tacit acceptance of religious fundamentalism isn't smart. And this is just proving why.

You've got to wonder what's going to be the conclusion of the recent attacks on women in Israel that have been going on recently, between the 6-year-old attacked on her way to school, the IDF woman asked to sit at the back of the bus, and now this.

Are they heading toward a fundamentalist Jewish state in the middle east?

The United Torah Judaism party refused to formally join the coalition cabinet since doing so would signal an acceptance of the Zionist state, something its beliefs preclude.

Lemme see if I got this...

Their beliefs preclude their acceptance of the Zionist state, but their beliefs allow them to vote in elections and hold seats in the Knesset and help build governing coalitions.

Yeah, this is kind of an esoteric distinction:

In one sense, "Zionist" means secular, in that its belief is the state derives its authority from popular mandate. Ultra Orthodox believe Israel derives its authority from divine mandate.

In the 1940s, Zionists lobbied the British, fought conventional wars, and established Israel as a secular liberal democracy. Anti-Zionist Jews would have rather waited for the Messiah, let God fight all the wars, and established a biblical monarchy.

In short, it's no clever joke: UTJ really does want Israel to be more like Iran.

/Gross oversimplification

I'm sorry, everyone knows you can construct a special section of the conference venue that uses the latest in fetish and talisman technology to keep the moon magic of the unclean women contained enough to not disturb the menfolk.

The Charedim. Ah, yes. Proof that True Torah Judaism™ makes everything better.

These bozos don't serve in the Army.
They don't hold down real jobs.
Their education is all religious indoctrination. Period.
The men spend their entire lives in religious schools living off government stipends and charity.
They don't believe in the legitimacy of the country they leech off of.
They stone people who drive on Saturday
They throw acid on little girls
They beat up school children
They protect child molesters
They beat up women who try to vote
They extort protection money from local businesses

But because they breed like rabbits and vote in lock step with whatever their AyatullahsRabbis tell them to they are politically powerful. That means they decide who is a Jew and retroactively "de-Jew" thousands every year stripping them of their citizenship and their children of legitimacy. They get to decide who can get married. And they end up with important political posts.

A number of generals and former heads of Israeli Intelligence services call them the greatest existential threat to the country.

I call them "Jewhadis" and "Tallitbanis"

Read the article. The only reason they were able to segregate women was because it was a private event. Israeli law forbids the practice at public events, just like the US. The Israeli government does not support this.
