It seems that Jim took the success of The Truman Show to mean that he should foray into serious acting instead of sticking with the slapstick dumb humor he was previously known for. It did not really work for him with the exception of Eternal Sunshine which was really saved by writing and cinematography more than his acting ability.

Well, the article doesn't even mention Allen Gregory so subby either had to know that bit of trivia already or had to go hunting for it, which makes me think that he/she was actually a closet Allen Gregory fan.

That being said, the article mentions that they were also responsible for writing Yes Man and Hot Tub Time Machine, which were both surprisingly funny movies.

But, upon further review, it looks like the article writer doesn't know what the hell he's talking about. Yes, they wrote Yes Man but they have absolutely no connection to HTTM, so I'm torn.

That must have really pissed off all the Wayans who created the show with Carrey as the token white guy, which is why they retaliated by multiplying and making Scary Movie-type movies by the dozens.

Damon was just as funny on the show. The other Wayans were too young or Kim.

I still enjoy Liar Liar, that's probably about it for movies he's done that I'd watch more than once, if that.

Ya'll are forgetting Lemony Snicket's: A Series of Unfortunate Events. Great movie and Carry was good in it as well.

Cybernetic: I made it about halfway through the "Black Market" episode of Battlestar Galactica. It was so unbelievably awful that I resolved never to watch anything involving Ron Moore for the rest of my life.

Judging an entire series by one episode is fun!

I generally love bad shows, but Allen Gregory was too bad to even watch. It was just so... dead. The jokes, the premise, the actors - dead.

Yet every year some poor studio throws $100 million into one of his 'comedies', including a $20 million payday for Carrey, then does everything they can to convince us he's still a star. The final nail in his career's coffin was Mr. Popper's Penguins. It's like when people stopped caring about Jerry Lewis but he still kept making horrible movies for years until he became more famous for being a host of a telethon than for the thing that made him famous in the first place. At least Jerry Lewis was in a great Martin Scorsese movie. The apex of Jim Carrey's 'serious' acting career was...The Number 23.

After the cinematic miscarriage that was Evan Almighty, I can't think of anyone that's eager for another movie in that universe.

What are they gonna do, make him Samson? Have God tell him to murder his kid before telling him he's just kidding? Behead a Baptist guy named John?

Or maybe it'll be a tragicomedy where he's the new Job.

I thought the Napoleon Dynamite movie was amusing, but I can't see it being funny beyond that.

I didn't know that particular episode of BG was the first episode.

I didn't make it through ten minutes of the pilot episode of Allen Gregory before changing the channel. I understand that pilot episodes can be a little bad in comparison to the entire series, but this was awful, so I had no hope for the series and resolved to never watch it again.

And I watched Terra Nova through the season (possibly series) finale if that tells you anything (glutton for punishment, but I still have my limits).

You better take this extra pair of gloves....my hands are starting to sweat.

I think Jim Carrey has the same issue as Robin Williams... both so well known (and popular) for their stupid comedy but both also capable serious actors.

It's just that they can't draw the same numbers for their serious stuff.
