well no, bud light is still #1, budweiser just is no longer #2. all it means is that the demand for light american beers is much bigger than the demand for regular american beers. now that that is out of the way, commence unrelated beer snob thread...NOW

I'll be expecting my thank you letter from Coors for making them #1.

I personally enjoy the High Life myself.

It is the champagne of beers after all.

I don't think I've ever actually had Coors Light. I've had regular Coors, which is far from the worst of the adjunct filled American pilsners. My go-to for the type is Old Style because it's local and sells for $4.49 for a sixer of tallboys, so at least you're not overpaying for the crap you're drinking.

Also, brats turn out best when you cook them in Old Style or PBR.

There needs to be a Magna Carta of Beers to limit the king's power.

In my opinion it's the finest cheap beer.

Coors light is some bland crap. Apparently most Americans like water with beer flavoring.

Step 1: Learn to brew at home.

Step 2: ????

Step 3: Profit Flavor!

Those wacky germans wouldn't be implying their beer is "Uber Alles", would they?

While Bud ain't great, calling it the "unterbier" might get people worried about Germans love of generating gas.

Yes, "cold filtered" apparently translates to "strain all sources of character and taste out of the beer."

As opposed to Bud, Miller, Busch, or pretty much any of the other mass market ones?

We should've turned Germany into a permanent agrarian society for sending that light beer garbage to the states.

There really aren't words to describe the sh*ttyness of Coors Light. God, what a horrible, horrible beer.

When I go to my local pub that has 24 beers on draft, and I see guys drinking Coors Light out of a bottle, I just want to go over and ask them "why do you hate beer? Why are you even here?"

from the comments in the article:

"They were always the hit of the party or BBQ circuit whenever they would show up with their Coors on ice."

What a boring party.

FTFA: Budweiser, meanwhile, has dropped by more than 60% from its 50 million barrel peak in 1988, Beer Marketer's reported. The brand has tried a variety of messages to get out of the funk, including taglines such as "Great American Lager" and "It's What We Do" in recent years. In 2010, A-B brought on ad agency Anomaly in an effort to enliven the brand and reach out to younger audiences.

It simply doesn't occur to them that it could be a product problem, does it?

The problem is the demographics of the typical Budwieser drinker. Old white people and older hispanics. They also tend to be more conservative and so while quite loyal, it isn't a growing segment. A-B recognized this a long time ago but have failed miserably over the years to make that brand appeal to younger drinkers.

I've had exactly half a can of Budweiser in my entire life. I got a pounding headache and couldn't finish it, and it made me physically ill. I don't know if the beer did it, it was a bad can, or what, but I can't even look at the stuff anymore without getting sick because of the association.

It is, quite literally, the only beer I have ever come across that I will not drink even if it's free.

My favorite line from a commercial as of late:

"Miller Lite: voted best American style light lager"

For two reasons. First, that there is actually an American style light lager category, and second, because the category was probably only invented so American piss brewers would stop crying in their beers when they never won anything, despite the fact the the tears actually helped the taste.

It tastes like rubbing alcohol and sweat. It truly is one of the worst beers I've ever had, and I've had a lot.

Budweiser/Bud light is not made by an American company, so I don't know if you can call it an American beer.

Alcohol's an acquired taste. Why not "acquire" a taste that doesn't cost much? Because you're a pretentious trust-fund asshole.

High Life, PBR, and Budweiser beat the shiat out of your bitter and/or fruity ales. The Emperor Has No Clothes, biatch.

I have 5 gallons of an Irish Red Ale that just made it to the secondary fermenter last night and I'm looking at the porter ingredients I have to make my next batch. Drink whatever you want because I make mine from a pile of grains, sometimes some malt extract, and some yeast and, besides being fun, once you have the equipment it's pretty darned cheap to make. (Usually) high quality beer for 50 cents a bottle and it's fun as hell to make. Sure, a batch gets infected once in a while but hanging with some friends, drinking your own beer, meat on the smoker or grill, all while you make another batch...boy, that's just living the good life.

/THAT'S how to be a beer snob
//If you like Coors, Bud or Carling's Black label or whatever, drink it. There's no sense in drinking beer you don't like

2012-01-11 12:34:16 AM
I'm no beer connoisseur, but as far as common, mainstream beers go, I prefer Killian's Irish Red and Miller High Life, in that order.

thomps: well no, bud light is still #1, budweiser just is no longer #2.
Yeah it is.
/meaning that in the same vein of euphemism that I'd use "on the throne" in reference to the results of drinking Bud products

Anyone who says american light beer is bad (it is) has never had low end russian beer. Holy shiat, that stuff makes me wish I was drinking some bud light, or even a 40 of the worst malt liquor imaginable. However, it does come in a 5 liter bottle for about 4 dollars, so that kind of makes up for it.

Living in one of the least classy cities in the country (Springfield, MA), I know what you mean. There's a local sports bar that has about 13 taps, almost all put to great use. Only non-craft beer always on tap is Guinness. They always have things like Allagash, Founders, Northcoast, Green Flash, Stone, and Bear Republic beers on tap. Yet they carry bottles of the domestic crap, and it hurts a bit inside when I see people drinking those.
