(Townhall) Sad With a half-century of experience as a witness to liberal media bias, I'm not easily shocked or outraged by current displays of it, but George Stephanopoulos deserves special notoriety for his disgraceful performance Saturday night   (townhall.com) divider line 196

It must be hard being continually shocked and amazed with the fact other people might disagree with you.

But the evening's award performance goes to Stephanopoulos, for his next round of questions to former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney. Completely out of the blue, manufacturing an issue out of whole cloth, Stephanopoulos asked, "Gov. Romney, do you believe that states have the right to ban contraception? Or is that trumped by a constitutional right to privacy?"

To his credit, Romney called him on it: "George, this is an unusual topic that you're raising."

The issue was 'manufactured' by Santorum, who nearly beat Mitt in Iowa. So no, it wasn't out of the blue and it wasn't unusual. You can thank Rick, Mitt. And quit the whining, GOP. When your candidates continue to say crazy things, expect the media to continue to highlight them.

They're running against one another to see who gets to run against Obama.

Is this a double Rove with a half twist? Take your flaws and project them against the opposition? Shame on Obama for running a endless stream of GOP debates and hand picking the networks and moderators!

What Limbaugh is doing in calling them a distraction is in reality an attempt to distract from what a crappy field of candidates the GOP has. "Don't pay attention to them! Pay attention to sekular soshulist Fartbama!"

2012-01-10 10:15:39 AM
Rush Limbaugh's brother of all people is whining about the liberal media/reverse vampire conspiracy. Good one.

Doesn't really matter. It's a real issue. States are proposing it. It's not a fabricated issue.

The elephant from Sesame Street?

Even if there was a liberal media bias, they would have to stand in awe to Fox News, not just for their right wing bias but for their unabashed sensationalism and outright untruths and "mistakes" they make. Fox News is like something you would see in a Paul Verhoeven movie. It's on a Robocop or Starship Troopers level. And they're the highest rated news source on TV.

So liberal media bias? As usual, the right is projecting like an IMAX theater.

It's like the equivalent of: "Yeah, I can call my mom a slut all I want, but when YOU do it, well, that's wrong". The argument comes from a place of immaturity instead of a factual place. That my mom is a slut.

Diogenes: Doesn't really matter. It's a real issue. States are proposing it. It's not a fabricated issue.

We're agreeing here. It's not fabricated, just wasn't as visible until Santorum recently made it so. The author of the article has no room to complain about bias.

Besides, the one substantive point during the debate was over 9th Amendment philosophy.

Isn't Stephanopolous the guy who actually asked Obama in a debate why he doesn't wear an American flag pin?

The funny thing is that I can remember when they used to call Democrats the ones who were whining. Even funnier, Newt was around back then too.

Republicans pretty much deserve all the mockery and derision America can heap upon them.

During a debate, questions were asked to clarify positions. Truly, history's greatest monster...

The "liberal bias" in the media is one of the cleverest lies the right has in its arsenal of lies.

Corporate media knows where its bread is buttered.

Its a gotcha question to ask a candidate, in a debate, about his positions on social issues. Instead, there should be more questions about their pizza preferences.

I'm calling the GOP the Pussy Posse from now on. They have given me no choice.

OK, new gimmick. My trio of sexy, young singers will be called the Pussy Posse. The GOP has been demoted to the Cleft Asshole Crew.

Its also a legitimate question for Romney, who was pro-choice when he was running for governor of Mass, but a few months ago stated that he supported a "life begins at conception" constitutional amendment like the one that just failed in Mississippi. That amendment failed, not incidentally, in large part because it would likely have led to absurd consequences like criminalizing contraception.

If anything, Steph should have called Romney out when he tried to claim that no state wants to ban contraception, because at least one state tried to do it less than three months ago, and Romney vocally supported it.

Liberal media indeed.

I wonder if Ron Paul would still support the death penalty if someone raped and killed Kitty Dukakis.

Asking someone to stand by the words they paid to air in a tv ad? The horror!

I raped and killed Kitty Dukakis, so I am really getting a kick out of most of these replies.

Some of you guys are very good at making it sound like you know what you are talking about.

But trust me.... You don't.

I think you just want to make yourself sound smart, when in reality you dont know what you are talking about.

This is how bad info gets passed around.

In all fairness, Stephenopolous is a terrible moderator. I remember in 2008, at the Clinton-Obama debate he asked Obama why he wasn't wearing a flag pin and whether or not Obama loved America

It is absolutely ridiculous that these candidates are forced to explain their nutjob positions on national TV.

It'd be so much easier if they could just say stupid shiat to small groups of people without everyone else finding out.

I think the point of the TFA is that the author thought too much time was spent trying to get the candidates to sling mud rather than explain their positions.

There was left-wing bias in the media in 1962?

I know! And questions designed to differentiate the candidates by their answers during the process of choosing a candidate, theoretically making it easier/possible to choose. The horror!

The parts of the media that are liberal have a liberal bias? Tell me more. . .

Soon we will find out that the parts of the media that are conservative have a conservative bias.

Then what will we do!

Miss it? The short version, "getting a kick..." is well-nigh part of General Farkese now. And I've started seeing the long version making a comeback in the last few months, just like in this thread.

Never fear, my dear Yankee, there will never be a time when Farkers aren't getting a kick out of something.

Vote Republican, natch. Or even better, indirectly by voting 3rd party so that the ass is covered.
