Sooo...criminals pay for an ad (through what I assume is an automated system of sorts), Google pulls the ad, but keeps the money.

I see no problem here.

Might be good PR to donate it, but giving the money back to the criminals is only going to encourage them.

I will not post a long rant about AdWords. Enough to say that they charged my business for a pile of "placements" that they could not confirm, nor did my tracking software. Like ten times as many "placements" on a site than the site had page views, according to an independent monitoring.

small business owner here with a similar complaint. I too have been the victim of clicks that WERE NOT via adsense so no one stood to gain except google.

There is no oversight and we are all just supposed to believe all the clicks are real clicks? It will come out 20 years down the line and me and you natazha (but mainly the lawyers) will get our 10 cents settlement check and a 'sorry' email from google. In the meantime they are lining their pockets a billion at a time.

If I had the energy and was a lawyer I would be looking at class action and going after google on this adwords scam.

It's the crime of the century.

google isn't evil? haha yeah okay.

/curious to know what tracking software you used
// do you want to talk on email? this is a big deal and needs to be exposed

What's their next article on google, that they use computers?

"Download Star Wars Episode 1 here!" - It was still in theaters
"Get your Free PS3 Here!" - It was more than a year away from release

You need to pay someone like me. Tracking:

CPC: $5.66. ROI: $66.02.

That being said, this one is fun:

Google's QC is notoriously stringent.

This is the main reason Google can weed through tens of thousands of advertisements every month and identify these scams / low quality advertisers / pay-per-click sites / etc. However, to sort the bad advertisers from the good, many QC-related click-throughs are needed.

Now I'm curious: did either of your Adsense contracts state that Google's own QC-related click-throughs count toward your bill?
