For some reason, I now have The Doors "People are Strange" stuck in my head.

Poor little guy. That's a tough day for a dog.

Kinda. A worthless piece of shiat drunk driver killed his owner while she was out jogging with him. Dog got hit too, but ran away and tried to swim to Mexico.

The story linked from the video was quite maddening to read. Kills a woman, injures another, puts his friend in critical condition (as well as himself) after crashing into a litany of peoples' property. There's "I got caught sleeping it off in my car" DUI and there is blind-drunk DUI and this guy was clearly the latter. What a POS.

Poor dog. I'm glad it kinda sort of worked out for him and he got back to his family even if his owner wasn't so lucky. Stupid driver.

Small consolation as it is, I have to imagine it is a huge comfort to the family to have the dog back.

May the drunk driving son of a biatch who killed the owner rot in prison.

Really sad story but the kayak guy is awesome. Despite what some people might think, I don't believe that everyone would do this. Some people see an animal loose, even if it's obviously a pet, and they just ignore it. This guy got it on his kayak, tried his damnest to find it's owner and then failing that made sure he got the poor dog to a vet.

I've got a lot of respect for that guy. You can see it in the vid. He didn't even hesitate. As soon as he saw the dog he just cleared his gear away and helped it.

/Yeah, I love dogs

This.

My wife and I were coming home one night in a thunderstorm and came across a pitbull terrier wearing a collar shivering in the rain. My wife's a vet tech and will not let an animal in need go without if she's able. She said "we'll open the door and see what it does." As soon as she did it jumped in the car and cowered on the floorboard. We brought her home, dried her off, gave her some food and crated her for the night. Next morning we called the local shelter and they put us in touch with the owners who lived right down the street. She panicked because of the lightening and took off through a screen door. Needless to say they were ecstatic to get "Bella" back and now I've got a good friend in the neighborhood.

If any of my animals get out I hope that someone would do the same.

Not big on capital punishment, but to the gallows with him I say. Getting out of getting a Cinderella license isn't worth killing someone.

May we all be so lucky to be cared for when we are scared, panic-striken and lost as these dogs have been. Good on you, your wife and the kayaker.

On new years day a couple years back we lost our Golden Retriever that way only she had no collar (she'd been in the back yard and somehow escaped). She ended up about 3 miles from our house. We found her because we'd called all over the place looking (animal control and such) and someone else had called about finding her. Animal control thankfully put the two together. The other family had taken her in with their own dog and fed her while trying to find us.

Red Sparrow: The other family had taken her in with their own dog and fed her while trying to find us.

I did that last summer. Found her running on the highway a km from my house. Put her in the back with my dog, brought her back to my place, gave her water and some treats (hoping that this wasn't some dog on a horrible restricted diet that I was killing with doggie junk food) and then called all the local dog people (vets, animal control, rescue shelter) asking if anyone had a lost dog that looked to be part beagle. Eventually found the owners the next morning.

They were in tears when their happy pooch bounded out my front door to greet them. After a cold night in the mountaints they were already starting to work into an acceptance that their dog was never coming back. I was in tears too.

If you're thinking about driving drunk, go fark yourself with a chainsaw. If you're still thinking of driving drunk after that, you are an animal and need to be put down.
