I honestly never understood the old-timey love for WD-40 anyway - any auto parts store has better penetrating oils for about the same price, and contrary to their claims it makes a poor general-purpose lubricant (as do all penetrants - they need to be thin and runny to wick in between frozen parts, they're not designed to cling to surfaces). The only thing I really use it for is adhesive/residue removal - it has a pleasant smell and is easier to clean off finished surfaces than a more aggressive solvent.

So, reduce the size of the cans, have it made in China, fire some employees in the US, and big executive bonuses all around?

yeah, but when you go through deep water, nothing's better than a squirt of wd to displace the moisture in your distributor.

DO NOT (I repeat, DO NOT) use WD-40 while wearing a condom and exploring the areas of anal sex with your girl. Doesn't work.

Agreed - oldtimers swear by it and end up doing more damage than good. Case in point my dad who liberally applies it to every orfice on his bicycle (including the chain). I can only imagine how farked up his hubs and bottom bracket are...

People are finally realizing that it is not a lubricant, it is a solvent.

However, in their favor, they've done a great job over the years marketing it as both.

Fun fact:
WD-40 has a full-on social networking site based around their product.

Same here - Castle makes a product called "Thrust" that's also really good, but retail availability is spotty (where I live, anyway), generally you have to get it from industrial supply places.

Some WD-40 and a Scotch Brite pad will polish the shiat out of billet aluminum like old motorcycle casings and the like.

Loved small cans of that and Binaca to use as mini flamethrowers in high school.

/Probably were not that good for self-defense like we thought.

You again. What the hell is wrong with you?
Did you run out of sleeping people to mouth-rape?

It's great for removing baked on tree sap on your car without ruining the paint. It's also good for cleaning your hands after you work with tar or paint.

===========================================================

It ISN'T a lubricant. Everyone THINKS it is, but it isn't. And it was never designed to be.

It's designed as a water repellant to prevent rust thereby keeping things running well. If the thing you want to spray WD-40 on is already rusted, WD-40 won't help you.

Of course, reading the page-long warning labels on real lubricants about how nasty they are and how they're so nasty that they'll rape your children and burn a hole through your testicles... I'm not really sure I want to touch real lubricants.

Well to be fair, I think the reason people think it's a lubricant and a penetrant is because they go around TELLING everybody that it is:

WD-40 Lubricates, Cleans, Protects, Penetrates & Displaces Moisture
