TFA mentions that Jenny Boyd and Mick Fleetwood were married and divorced twice, but doesn't mention she's the younger sister of Pattie Boyd, who was Mrs. George Harrison until Eric Clapton layla'd her away, until more affairarity ensued.

(Just read Pattie's vapid memoir "Wonderful Tonight" and wish I could have those hours back.)

One night in Mick's wife and Bob Weston's fired
He lost the job but Murray Head was free
One night in Mick's wife, but he got re-hired
Some other bands can use guitars, you see
Now he's just a corpse that will no longer be

Adolf Oliver Nipples: That must have been some affair to stand out enough to get kicked out of Fleetwood Mac.

No kidding. I always thought that having an affair of some sort was prerequisite for being in the band.

The most solid, long-lasting relationship to come out of Fleetwood Mac is John McVie and Mick Fleetwood (make whatever you like out of that comment; John and Mick joke about it all the time).

That said, here's Weston and Bob Welch playing guitars on "Hypnotized", from the '73 album Mystery To Me. (new window)

It's one of my favorites, and I think you'll like it too.

God I miss AM sometimes.

We had a pretty cool FM station here in the seventies and I remember Hypnotized from then. I guess it was a b-side to For Your Love. Good luck hearing it anywhere these days. Thanks for the reminder.

So when did Fleetwood Mac turn the corner from "don't sleep with my wife" street onto "just make sure you rinse her off when you're done" blvd?

Probably right after they took that first left and got stuck in Cocaine Courtyard.

ObTrivia: This incident was used by Iain Banks as a plot element in his novel Espedair Street.

A number of other events in the book were loosely inspired by Fleetwood Mac, Pink Floyd, and other bands.

/Another plot element was based on the death of Leslie Harvey, guitarist of Stone the Crows, who was electrocuted on stage by a live microphone.

The curious thing about early-70s Fleetwood Mac was that the band was very popular with surfers here on the East Coast. I first heard the band not on the radio, but on countless 8-track and cassette players in vans and VWs at Hatteras, Sebastian Inlet, etc. When I moved into working college radio in '73, "Mystery to Me" was one of the albums I brought along with me, along with "Heroes Are Hard To Find" the next year.

"Hypnotized" is one of my all-time favorite tracks and that video is on my personal YouTube playlist. The opening drum count guarantees I'll stop what I'm doing and listen for a while. It's also one of two Fleetwood Mac songs to mention eastern NC.

I miss "deep cut" FM stations like K-94 and KissFM along the eastern seaboard that played early Fleetwood Mac, Little Feat, Steely Dan, etc, all before they were massive hits. It was great to be rolling along Hwy 12 at 2 am and have something like "Hypnotized" or "Bermuda Triangle" come on the airwaves.

/lawn, off, you know the drill

If Weston had stayed, maybe Lindsey Buckingham would not have been brought on board... along with his girlfriends at the time, Stevie Nicks. Honestly, often not given enough credit.... Lindsey Buckingham WAS what made that band work. No Lindsey....NO great break through era for Fleetwood Mac

But on topic...sucks to die at 64. Rest in peace my man. Wish you got at least another 20.

Former Fleetwood Mac bassist Bob Brunning also died last October. Fortunately they still have one Bob left, although I would advise Mr. Welch to lock his doors at night.

"Mystery To Me" is better than "Rumours". Discusss.

So technically, isn't this the first member of FM to die? Wow. All that cocaine, and yet Stevie, John, Mick, and the rest are all still alive and well, even John MacVie after his various heart problems. Amazing. I always figured it would be someone like Peter Green going first, of some rare infection from unwashed skin or something, or Jeremy Spencer getting stabbed to death by a child out of revenge for their abused past in the Children of God or whatnot, if it wasn't going to be a directly drug-related early organ failure. Then again, I suppose unless you're the drummer, there's no real worries, right? Hell, Mick alone with his Marfan syndrome and history of coke abuse should also be a contender for cardiac exhaustion death.

But I suppose there's something magical in that 70's cocaine that we don't know about, because if Stephen Tyler, Kieth Richards, and even David Crosby (not counting liver transplant) are still with us, anything is possible.

Sorry, missed your post while scrolling. Of course, being "the original bassist" doesn't mean a whole lot when you were only a member long enough to lay down a single known track, in a group with a 45 year history and 30 albums.

His recording and acting career says otherwise. Don't get me wrong, I love Taster's Choice commercials and the occasional guest role in Doctor Who as much as anyone, but really, I'm not seeing it, and apparently neither are hundred of millions of people around the world who love Fleetwood Mac, as opposed to the huge following the Head Bros. have on BitTorrent. Giles will always be Giles; Fleetwood Mac has been a dynamic force in blues, pop music, rock, and entertainment for generations. "Jesus Christ Superstar" and "Chess" are more dated than shag carpeting and payphones.

I am still technically correct, which is the best kind of correct. He was also involved with a number of side projects with various Fleetwood Mac members and wrote several popular books about the band.
