So an elevator to hell is much more convenient. Doesn't require any tickets and such

Anne Frank would have found it

I'm not sure if I'd rather have the doors opening to an inferno, or a wall of water.

Either way, not a fun way to go.

This elevator probably has one:

"Something like this just shouldn't have happened," Bertie Tautenhahn said. "No one should drown in an elevator."

I feel really bad for laughing at that sentence.

What an elevator to death (and/or clipart) might look like.

I can't imagine a worse way to go, choking on thick black smoke, knowing that you're about to die and there's nothing that you can do to stop that damned Barry Manilow muzak.

I thought elevators went express to the lobby when the fire alarm is pulled?

TFA: "and unlike buildings built after 1975, the elevators don't stop working when a smoke detector is activated"

Oh, I see. It's another one of those cases where old infrastructure got grandfathered in under job-killing regulation, because, hey, the free market will sort it out anyway.
If people want to live in safe buildings, they'll find that information out and they won't move into buildings that aren't up to code. And those old things will be torn down and renovated before long anyway. Right?

"Since 1957, doors of each unit in a high-rise that lead to the building's corridor have been required to automatically close to prevent fires from spreading."

Didn't know that. Never really thought about how/why all hotel doors had automatically closing doors except when it's a pain in the ass to remember the key(card)s whenever you want to go down the hall to get some ice.

For her sake, I hope it was extremely quick, and she never really knew what was happening. Sounds like something out of Final Destination 32.

Of course, if the building had been updated, she might be alive. But I'm sure the extra expense to the landlord would have been just insane, right?
