On the surface my comment seems to be guilty of excessive sarcasm...Maybe. In the American legal system it can be very difficult to gain a conviction if your victim/witness is very young. It could come down to a child saying that the 'bad man' did bad things to her. If forensic evidence is lacking and if the pedophile has been cunning and not decorated his house with child porn and has none on his computer, particularly with photos of his victim it can be very difficult to convict. The child makes for a poor witness and the prosecutor and family can be very reluctant to further stress a young child by putting it on the stand. The result could very well be a not guilty or dropped charges.
I am uncertain how the Greek system works but giving pensions to pedophiles and the other upstanding members of society you mentioned makes me think perpetrators fair pretty well.
