fwiw, the Walgreens locations in Manhattan do have a number of features that a normal Walgreens doesn't.

So I see the concept of a "department store" has finally made a return.

I'm entirely okay with this if it means I might get access to sushi in my own town without having to roll it myself.

Maybe the street preacher in front of the Old Navy on State and Washington will move his gear in front of this Walgreen's.

Sure, I could have spelled 'follow up' correctly, but sometimes you gotta say 'F*ck it.' and hit 'add comment'...

And they can't seem to carry Blu-blockers anymore?

I love sushi, but "Walgreen's sushi" doesn't have a very appetizing ring to it.

Not stupid at all. It is a couple blocks from where I work and I'm totally okay with this as the CVS by my house doesn't yet sell alcohol due to some crazy neighborhood association infighting with the alderman about zoning.

/yay Walgreens

Cr4p, it's in the Loop. I was hoping they'd replace the one across from Tribune Tower with something navigable.

As long as they have the long line of beggers outside as well as a few selling Street Wise. It wouldn't be a Chicago Walgreens without them.

ooooooh snap. I love me some Walgreens. Its a shame its in the loop tough; while its on my bus route, I'm not going to make a stop just so i can get a smoothie...maybe.

Now if they could revamp the Walgreens right next door to work, (the one across from the Trib Tower)....smoothies and sub-par sushi everyday!!!

I'd like to see the return of the old school Walgreens Grill. I used to love eating at Walgreens as a kid. The burgers & fries were good and awesome ice cream desserts. Had my first malted milkshake at Walgreens.

Woolworths and K Mart also used to have really good grills/diners in store also.

Sounds like the stores in my hometown. I recently moved back to find that the little grocery store now has a fancy deli/grill/sammich counter and a sushi counter. The place was cramped when I was a kid and it's just ridiculous now and prices are through the roof. And the tiny corner market down the road has gone Full Snooty. Stuff like boar pate and caviar in the end coolers. On the plus side, there are now two places I can pick up a bottle of safflower oil on my way home from the normal store two towns over.

Grilled cheese sandwich with a tomato slice at the Woolworths lunch counter, I miss that. Truly one of Earth's great delicacies.

aren't they also building a new walgreens in the old bank building at the six corners of Wicker Park?

hopefully that's similar.

I live just a couple blocks up the street and am looking forward to this, if only because the pharmacy will be open until 9, meaning that I don't have to go all the way to the 24-hour store at Chicago and Michigan if we need to pick up a prescription after 7:00. I don't smoke cigars or eat sushi, or drink very much wine, and it doesn't sound like the cosmetic services include much for men...no barber or anything...but I do go to Walgreens a lot, mostly for standard pharmacy stuff.

As a Walgreens employee I'd love to say something about such a big, expensive thing. Instead, I'll complain about CT being a bastard and not letting us sell alcohol.
