O Romeo, Romeo, wherefore wilt thou be for the next year and a half of a three year contract? A: Kansas City

There fixed it.

Came here to say this, but much less eloquently. Leaving now.

He beat Green Bay and Denver. Obviously he's the best coach ever.

Good luck with that.

Beats Haley.

Well, the players love Crennel, so it's not a bad hire until they go 4-12 next year. I think he's a fantastic defensive coordinator (despite a poor start this year.)

I'm torn. This smells a lot like the kind of hire that just gets us a lot of water treading for the next 3 years. Probably a bit better next year, won't make the leap the following year, worse still in the third, and we're back where we started.

But on the other hand, if Jack Del Rio was the other way to go? Yeah go Romeo. At least the players seem to like him and will play for him. Little disconcerting that we didn't really hear Fisher's name for this job. Makes me wonder if Pioli hasn't entered that "Why would I want that asshole as my boss?" phase.

I also came to say that wherefore means why.

They talked to Fisher.

I first read that as Romo and was feeling real bad for Di/Romolicious.

Romeo was restless, he was ready to kill.

As a Chiefs fan, (and one who really got plastered the day we took away Greenbay's Undefeated Season TM) I have to say I have reservations about this. Let us not be overly excited about this decision. I feel a repeat of Minnesota and Leslie Frazier is on it's way towards Arrowhead Stadium.

Thanks for the last few wins but I didn't see why KC would want him if the BROWNS got rid of him. Sure the team is pumped but so were the Vikings over Frazier.

At least next year we MIGHT be able to still have all of our star players on the field after the first two games.

You probably said the same to Patriots fan when they hired Belichick. Not the Romeo is Belichick. Just that the Browns are an enormous vortex of suck regardless of who is coaching.

He's NOT a good gameday coach... Unless he learned from his time in Cleveland, he has WAY too much of an effect on the outcome of the game... Rather than prepare his guys in practice, then let them play on Sunday, he mismanages the clock, calls bad timeouts, calls risky plays where there's no need to.... He'd shoot the team in the foot.

Make halftime adjustments? Fine... But a good coach should basically let his players play, having done most the work during the week.

Most frequently misused Shakespeare quotation of all time. Usually by sportswriters. Years ago, I was a sports copy editor and came across this usage and changed. Got into a heated argument with the writer the next day and he actually told me, "So what? Most people think it means where anyway."

Belichek is the first to admit that his time in Cleveland was a learning experience, and that he had to adjust his stubborn ways. Granted, as a Browns fan, i'd love to still be able to hit 9-7 consistenly.

Have fun celebrating the 20th anniversary of your last playoff win in January 2014, not like you're seeing another one until then.

Not that the Pats win playoff games much anymore, but the regular season is usually better than 9-7. And quite often it's a first round bye and a home playoff game.

It's not a bad place to be. He has the foundations of a good team, plus he's already notched two wins.

My stepdad, who is a Broncos fan, thinks the Chiefs having Orton is the best joke ever. "He's fantastic between the 20 yard lines," he told me at Christmas, and from what I saw he was absolutely right.

The foundations part is right. It just feels like Frazier all over again.

I'm referring to his time in Cleveland... The team would go 9-7, and it was considered sub-par. If only they could hit that mark, these days.

This...

Actually, the Browns never fired Bill Belichick. The Ravens fired Bill Belichick because Art Modell wanted a fresh start in Baltimore ... and got it by hiring Ted Marchibroda.
And I think Crennel will do a decent job in Kansas City because, well, the AFC West is a fairly weak division. Outside the division, Crennel was a .500 coach in Cleveland. He just couldn't beat Pittsburgh to save his life, and fared only a little better against Baltimore and Cincinnati.

"In 30 years as a coach in the National Football League, Romeo has established an outstanding track record of success"

Just so long as he wasn't the head coach.

Good on him. I sometimes think he got a raw deal in Cleveland. I mean, the guy went 10-6 with Derek Anderson as his starting quarterback, for crying out loud. He has coaching talent.

2012-01-09 04:38:50 PM
I read that as Romo.. and started think that maybe Jerry had a stroke and started to think rationally.

Being an iggles fan.. I view Jerry as they best guy on our team.. as long as he is in charge the cowboys will be mediocre at best.

Hmmm...well, next year Matt Cassel and Jamaal Charles are back and, especially for Charles, that means the Chefs will be better. With a little drafting, they could definately compete, though it'll be tough with the Raiders(Unless they keep Carson and get rid of Campbell, in which case I predict about 5-11) and Broncos(And, depending on when they play, the Chargers).

I'm excited as he seems like an actual human being unlike Haley. I understand the reservations about him with the Browns, but I mean....it was the Browns. He was some how able to lead a team that featured Derek Anderson and had to deal with Kellen Winslow Jr's BS to a 10-6 season. Sounds like a miracle worker to me.

I'm not worried. I'm still bitter that Marv Levy coached the chiefs before he knew what he was doing.

Dude, you take anything Cleveland does with a grain of salt these days. In fact, a good move would be to see what the Browns did, then do the opposite.

In that respect, this may be the greatest hiring in the history of coaching hirings.
