In 2 weeks my wife and kids will be going to Vietnam for three weeks to visit family. I'll be stuck at home since I have to work. By stuck at home I mean I already have a copy of Skyrim and I'll just leave the fridge open so the dogs can forage without annoying me.

Stay at home vacations can be awesome.

The guards say "in the knee" not "to the knee". Come on people, get your meme right.

I haven't seen a meme phrase get misquoted this much since the word "they" got thrown into Rainer Wolfcastle's famous "my eyes, the goggles do nothing" line.

Also, an Elder Scrolls game for a console? But then how will you mod it?

I've found myself just treating TOR as an eight-playthrough KotOR sequel, on those grounds it's well worth the 60, 80 bucks it'll probably take to run through single-player on all eight classes. The PvP is fun, too, but has almost nothing to do with other aspects of the game and is just designed to be enjoyable instead of more required grinding for gear.

I guess the analogy I'd probably make is Nox. It's like playing Nox on a monthly fee. With lasers.

I couldn't sleep last night. After hours laying awake, I started falling into a dream. Eventually, I realized I was dreaming in Skyrim. I was still lucid enough to have changed what I was dreaming, but I just sort of gave in and went with it. Got a couple hours of sleep and I'm pretty sure I completed a quest or two.

You do realize that any Apple machine capable of handling Skyrim's graphics can also have windows installed on it....All you need is a copy of Windows (XP, Vista or 7, legit or otherwise). Apple has a utility called Bootcamp that will walk you through the process.

I hadn't played any of the earlier Elder Scrolls games, so I didn't think I'd like this one. My wife got it for me for Christmas even though I hadn't asked for it.

Well, I was wrong. I'm having a blast. Most games suffer greatly if you don't follow a suggested path. This game actually gets better if you ignore it.

"Santa gave" my son Skyrim for Christmas and he was playing it pretty hardcore over Christmas vacation until one day he got really pissed off. I asked him what was wrong and he said "I just got on and all of my gear is gone and I'm an area surrounded by aggressive guards that kill me before I get can get out." He's been playing Bioshock 2 ever since. Now I'm guessing he just did something stupid and won't admit it. I'm betting if I start playing it though, his interest will be quickly renewed.

This was my first ES game too. The biggest draw was the dragons. If I'm ever able to complete the main quest (playing the broken PS3 version) I'll move on to Oblivion and eventually just go through the set backwards.

Two possibilities:

1) He's Stealy McThiefery and got caught stealing and the guards took away all his stolen loot.

2) There's a quest where you have to let yourself get arrested and they take your gear. There's a way out of it, and you'll get your stuff back, but you have to talk to the people in the prison with you.

He hasn't figured out that he can reload from an earlier point? Or he doesn't want to lose whatever progress he's made between then and the aggo guards?

Players can do just about anything, from picking mushrooms to buying a house to reading books to chasing butterflies to creating their own armor. For example, Powell trained his character in magic and now likes to cast spells that enrage people to start bar fights.

Shrooms and feuds, sounds like a natural for the Smokies.

My Skyrim disk is gathering dust in my PS3. Any game where you can kill a dragon with a few blows of an axe is somehow not that exciting anymore.

Skyrim is the ultimate poster child for games that make good teaser movies and screenshots but don't have actual gameplay. The "story" is so thin its barely noticeable.

Its really like all bethesda games after daggerfall...you wait a year for all the dlc to be released, and wait for the modders to fix all of the broken things, clean up the interface, and add variety

unfortunately its a chicken and egg thing where you have to play though the game once to learn what mods you need to make it fun, and by then you don't want to bother playing through again

IMO one of skyrim's cardinal sins is the unkillable characters, the way they should have handled it is the vital character should fall over like he is dead, but when you come back to the cell he is alive again. It isn't "realistic" but its better than being permanently in combat with this immortal mook

You know, I played the hell out of Skyrim for weeks and weeks, and then a few friends picked up Battlefield and Skyrim kind of fell by the wayside because every time I got on to play they invited me to play with them, and I did. Couple weeks ago, I got back into Skyrim, and I realized that I hadn't completed a single major questline. I was level 58 or so, most of my skills are in the 70-100 range, I've got alchemy, enchant and smithing maxed, a full set of dragon armor that makes me damn near invulnerable, own all houses, have so many alchemy ingredients that I can't carry them all even though my carry capacity is like 600, have damn near explored the whole map, and played more hours than I can count. All without finishing a major questline.

I've since finished the Main line, and the Civil war line. I've barely started the mage's and thieve's guild, and done the first couple of Dark Brotherhood quests. I hear that's the best one. Now I'm just debating if I should start a new character, or use my current guy and try to hit the level cap.

There are apparently working cider and wineskin wrappers that will let you run Skyrim without booting into bootcamp:

It's a good game but if you're still burnt out on MMOs it won't suck you back in. I mean, would I rather be home playing SWTOR than sitting here at work farking? Sure. But I could just as easily fire up Skyrim or read a book - it hasn't grabbed me the way WoW did, which didn't grab me the way EQ did back in the day.

Still, if you enjoyed KOTOR, you'll like this. IMO.

Oh, my. That is a damn splendid idea. I saw someone made a EotB set for Neverwinter Nights but haven't tried it. Mostly because I'd rather it be 3D like the original without the overhead POV (unless there's a first-person POV that I don't remember.) Just seemed more "real" I guess.

To be fair, if he kept over-riding his previous saves he may be right. Similar thing happened to me with Fallout 2 because I was trying to save HD space on my old Xbox.

And to be fair subby, Skyrim hasn't really been out that long. Hell, I got it on release and am barely into it. Mainly because I know how this game could suck me in, and I don't have a lot of time for it these days.
