Never get involved in politics if you have a mortgage unless you've sucked up to the head of Countrywide beforehand

At some point, Mitt is going to slip up and just come out and say it: "My money makes me better than you!"

This is the only thing he actually believes in. Well, that and magical underwear.

"I think we serve our country first by standing for people who believe in conservative principles and doing everything in our power to promote an agenda that does not include President Obama's agenda."

Modern Republicanism in a nutshell. Obama really should start pushing a "Breathing Agenda."

I thought it was mighty grand of Huntsman to stand up to Romney during the debate, and tell him that's the reason why we're divide, and Washington is broken.

Unfortunately, it probably didn't impress the mouth-breathers so much.

It's not the wealth that makes him better. It's the blessing of the Lord.

But the wealth is definitely a sign of divine favor.

Haven't you heard of the Prayer of Jabez? Try it for forty days. I guarantee it will work, unless you're a sinner, a homosexual, or a shiftless minority.

Won't matter. He gets the nom. He can stuff a bag of kittens into a woodchipper on primetime television and he will get the nom. He will get the nom because contemporary wisdom says that he has the best chance of winning in the general. Why he's trying to so hard to continue winning over the hardliners confuses me. He should be trying to muddle support for Obama by being so damned nice, handsome, and sane that those who are disillusioned by our current presidents policies and his lack of action on key issues stand in the booth and actually go "huhn. This guy ain't so bad, really. And I'd like to express my displeasure at the present administration."

Yet another reason I happen to think that every last one of these guys is actually trying to lose at this point. Nobody wants to take the wheel right now. It's icy and dark, the wheels locked up a ways back and both headlights are out. Car's just about sideways at this point and the cliff's approaching fast. Let the democrat take the heat for it.

I'm not entirely sure Mitt will win in NH. Speaking as resident of Massachusetts, I think our neighbors to the north know what a douche he really is.

2012-01-09 10:47:23 AM
Then Romney turned his attention to a postmortem of his race against Sen. Ted Kennedy. "I was happy he had to take a mortgage out on his house to ultimately defeat me," he said.

This is who you have to vote for, teabaggers. He feels your pain.

Well we did elect him to be Governor in the first place.

/and by we, I mean everyone else. I sure didn't vote for him.

Neither did I. But I've noticed over the years, my town going more and more conservative. I'm not completely sure why.

At the Daily Beast, John Avlon was shocked. "That is the opposite of John McCain's 2008 campaign slogan, 'Country First,'" Avlon wrote. "Romney's answer is 'Party First,' 'Ideology First.' And what's arguably even worse is that Romney probably doesn't even believe that."

In Romney's defense, however, McCain never actually believed "Country First" either.

Exactly. Wasn't McCain the candidate who KNEW where Osama bin Laden was but wouldn't reveal the information unless elected?

I could see myself voting Mitt Romney for President, but only under a few circumstances:

- Mitt Romney were the only person I were allowed to vote for, and
- The penalty for not voting was being publicly flogged and decapitated.

Sounds like good solid advise to me. It means, if you cant afford to take a chance don't take it because you may not win.

Should I buy a house counting the job I interviewed for is mine?

Don't start that new business because it might fail. Don't invest your money because you might lose it. Don't cross the street because you might get run over.

Well, generally we tend to elect people that have either been successful enough or are old enough that they don't have a mortgage anymore, but I don't think it's really a requirement.

Whenever the economy gets bad, the middle class gets all "conservative". Which ALWAYS makes things worse for...the middle class.

Conservatism isn't so much a political philosophy so much as it is a brainwashing technique.

Mitt Romney's only prinicple is that holding every single possible position on an issue at the same time is the best way to garner support for Mitt Romney.

kbronsito: i dont know about this... how many lashes and what method of decapitation are we talking about?

Forty lashes with a cat o' nine tails to the back and groin, and multiple hacks at the neck with a blunt instrument to ensure that decapitation was as painful and drawn out as possible.

When you get done being raped by the bank you've probably paid 600K for your 300K house thats now worth 150K.

Sucker is the only word for that.

Much better to rent and pay someone else's mortgage?

I think there's also the approach where you build equity, then sell for more than you paid, eventually working to that all-cash option. But that's so 2007.

Sorry. Let me try again.

We need a president who has consistently shown the ability to be unsuccessful? That is not Romney!

Mitt Romney: I think we serve our country first by standing for people who believe in conservative principles and doing everything in our power to promote an agenda that does not include President Obama's agenda.

So now the most noble form of patriotism is "stick it to Obama?" Yeah, that's exactly what I'm looking for in a leader. I want someone who will look carefully at the challenging domestic international and domestic problems facing our country, and will choose the solution that will stick it to Obama.

* In 2013, when Iran demonstrates nuclear capability, I want a President who says "what can I do to stick it to Obama?"

* In 2014, when we go into a double dip recession, I want a President who says "what can I do to stick it to Obama?"

* In 2015, when Citizens United continues to make a mockery of our election process, I want a President who says "what can I do to stick it to Obama?"

* In 2016, when Afghanistan goes completely to shiat, I want a President who says "what can I do to stick it to Obama?"

Remember, vote Romney in 2012, and stick it to the black guy.

// In Romney's defense, I've heard it said that he's very charismatic when he's off camera.

I don't know whether it says more about Republicans' optimism or the terrible choice of candidates that they think Romney is the one most likely to beat Obama. It is almost like they've conceded the 2012 election and are just going to be obstructionists for four more years until they can win in 2016.

In fairness to Romney, he didn't say that you shouldn't get involved in politics if you have a mortgage, he said not to get into politics if you have to win an election to pay a mortgage. He also was supposedly quoting his dad, who was the CEO of American Motors and later Governor of Michigan.

His dad grew up poor during the Great Depression and made something of himself, so he at least knew what it was like to have to worry about paying a mortgage -- not so much for Mitt. That fucker never had to worry about paying for anything in his life.

And we're done. Seriously, so many folks believe in the idea of a "prosperity theology", even if they aren't, themselves, Christian, that there's no chance of an intelligent, charismatic, selfless, but poor, person to be elected - you just don't have the money, nor will you ever get the money, to be taken seriously by folks who believe that your bank account, and only your bank account, is a qualitative measure of your value to society.
