Why should I donate money to him (and get processing and administration fees taken out) instead of donating money directly to clinics or research orgs? What does running accomplish?

Yeah, I never understood the problem with that. Greedo was pointing a weapon at Han, and it was pretty clear that he intended to kill Han and take the money for himself. So Han Solo defended himself. What needed changing?

ubermensch: Why should I donate money to him (and get processing and administration fees taken out) instead of donating money directly to clinics or research orgs? What does running accomplish?

In this case, you're donating directly to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, not to "him". You can certainly donate directly to clinics and researchers if you wish, assuming you have the time and knowledge it takes to research those that are going to be most beneficial for your money. Organizations like LLS take the hard work out of finding a good place to donate, funding research on a much larger scale than a single small donation can help. On top of that, you may not necessarily receive a tax deduction by donating to a specific research team, whereas with LLS you do. Also, many research teams don't have the time or manpower to maintain a constant fundraising campaign from small donors, finding it much more worthwhile to let others do that work and concentrate on the large donors such as LLS that can fund most or all of their work at one time.

Just my two cents, but by all means, donate wherever you wish.

Sorry to hear about the cancer but punching someone because they made fun of you for waiting in line for 2 weeks to watch Star Wars 2 is a bit of a dick move. He should have been arrested and lost his place in line. That guy is hero? Ya, nice going dude, you knocked down a teenager who you have 8'' and 80 lbs on.

Not to be snarky, but I do actually ask ubermensch which charities you actually support? I do hope you have a list of some that you recommend as I'm curious to hear about them.

Lucas' ex-wife gets royalties from any sales of the original version. What needed changing: Enough things that he could avoid paying his ex-wife.

Ta da.

Ya, he's a real badass. He was the bigger man yet he couldn't act like the bigger man. On the otherhand, he is the type of person who would wait 2 weeks in a line. I wonder if he brags to his nurse about how many 5 year olds he could take.

At the moment, none, as I'm currently out of work due to some medical issues. In the past, however, I have supported a number of different charities. Leukemia and Lymphoma Society is one, as well as the Lupus Foundation, St. Judes Children's Hospitals, World Wildlife Fund, and Susan G. Komen to name a few. Not sure why it matters where I donate, however.

And for the record I wasn't trying to discourage him, but he asked why he shouldn't donate directly and I was simply giving him some reasons. Every charity is different and has different procedures for how they distribute funds. Some do direct research, others don't. I was being serious when I said to donate wherever he wished. At least he's willing to donate, which is always a good thing.

No, at least not that I can tell (on mobile phone so can't link but just google Sar Wars Nerd vs Punk) he said he was upset because one of the punks cursed and his mom was in line. Not only did the punks not push him but he and his dork possee crossed the street to confront the punks.

Yeah, he was quite the hero nerd... *rolls eyes*. We should praise 30 year old dudes who smack around people half their age and weight... there was nothing punk happening in that video. It was a grown man hitting a skinny jean emo kid.

Just watched it again and it doesn't clearly show the push (camera was behind the big guy) but it looks like he was pushed and he said he was pushed later. I got no problem with him dropping someoen who pushed him.

So he was much bigger than the other guy. Sounds like the kid stepped up a bit too high, caught a beat down. Apparently he cant throw above his weight class, and needs to leave people bigger than him alone. Kid thought he was tough, turns out he wasnt.

Hey, I'm not defending the punk. He ran his mouth. I just don't get how the guy who punched him is a hero? His in his mid-30's and is waiting around for two weeks on Hollywood Blvd to see the worst Star Wars movie ever made. It isn't even like he's waiting to see Star Wars 1 which, while still the behavior of a gigantic farking loser, would at least make a little bit more sense since nobody knew how lame Phantom Menace would be. Instead, this thin skinned dweeb couldn't take a few jokes...and then he's proud of the fact he beat up a teenager that weighed 120 lbs soaking while holding a jar of panhandled change.

There the link, and as a liter who was there (I'm the bald dude on the right side of the screen when Art starts talking), I will say that Art hit him back, the kid threw a feeble punch at Art, and Art reacted. At the very end of the video, you can hear the line "get back to Hot Topic, biatch" which is still brought up as an insult by the wife and I.

PS Art did finish the race this weekend.
PPS Also, this was not a 2 week line for Episode 2, it was a 6 week line.
