Correct me if I'm wrong, but if he got going fast enough, wouldn't he look blued, until he passed us, when he'd look reddened?

When did they add a 'repeat' tag? Is that gonna be used when a story already went green but a better headline came up after?

When the heck did we get a img1.fark.net tag?

Only for ones like this where we're deliberately greening a known dupe. However, there is one change: if a regular greenlit thread makes it through and goes live, Farkers can still look at it, even after it's gone to red.

Misch: When the heck did we get a [img1.fark.net image 54x11] tag?

Couple weeks ago. This is only the second time using it.

Won't that encourage a deluge of submitters attempting to get greenlights on articles that went green days or weeks ago? I mean more than usual?

I'd imagine they already thought of that and made the tag accessible only to admins, like with the Fark Blog tag and the News tag (as opposed to the NewsFlash!! tag)

No, this was an exception, a good headline that got voted up and caught my attention the day after the original story. And as far as more repeats, we get about 3000 submissions a day. Of those, I'd guess that roughly 40%-50% are repeats of something that's either a day or two old, or is greenlit and pending going live.

Yep. Only for admins.

Oh, for craps sake. Now I have that stupid Blur song (woo hoo) running through my head with a picture of Hawking sailing down a long hill and a smile planted on his face...

Great headline!

I got to meet him last summer which was just great.

Even better is that I get to work at an institute where a former PhD student of his is the scientific director.

I like to think that Hawking would enjoy that headline too (as if he reads Fark).

I heard an interview with a woman who helped him edit one of his books. One her tasks was to make sure the language of physics was, ahem, clear to us mere mortals. She read a particularly hoary passage back to him and he replied "seems clear to me." She felt bummed that he was apparently going to be difficult... then she looked over at him and saw the big grin on his face.
