Wadded Beef: ttina: Ok, thread over. So the consensus is:

The Texans will beat the Ravens.
The Patriots will mount the Broncos.

Texans-Ravens = Zzzzzzzz no matter who wins.

Brady v. Tebow II: Better. I'd say New England with ease but then again, Denver is playing with house money.

just score 40 points.

I don't understand. Why didn't the Steelers pray a little harder? There's obviously something to it.

Yeap. I was surprised, both that they made the reference AND that it was good.

HawgWild: Dammit, where did I put that Tebow prayer?

Will this do?

Our Tebow, who art in Denver
Professional be thy name.
Thy passes come, thy catches made
At home as they are away.
Give us this day our daily score
And forgive us our penalties, as we forgive those who get penalized against us.
And lead us not into the red zone, without making a touchdown,
for thine is the running and the passing and the glory forever
On six!

This has probably already been said, but even as a Stillers fan, I hope that Tebow gets to and wins the superb owl, just because the hater whargabl will be epic. I don't expect that to happen, but I hope it does. Maybe if I Tebow really hard it will.

I'm torn about this game. I didn't want the Broncos to win, but it felt good to see the Steelers get the crap calls in favor of the storyline the NFL and the networks are pushing to sell the postseason. On a related note, did you know Jerome Bettis is from Detroit?

2012-01-09 07:00:32 AM
Can we start to say that Polamalu had one or two good years, but has been tremendously overhyped? Seriously, the last few games I've seen him play in, he was caught out of position several times because he was "anticipating" (broadcaster speak for "out of place") a run. When he wasn't already at the line of scrimmage, he got sucked in by play fakes on a regular basis. It seems like he's more interested in flying (literally) toward the ball in the hands of a runner than he is in defending the pass.

/it was like the Pittsburgh D was a man short in the secondary last night
//because Polamalu "anticipated" a run every damn play

The biggest differences between then and now are that Foster has gotten his groove back, and Andre Johnson will be playing this time. He was out in the first game between the two. It won't be the same game as before.

It won't matter how often Ray Rice gets loose if bad Flacco shows up. That said, the Ravens will win next week.

I'll go Pats, Ravens, Saints, Giants.

I'd like Denver to win but I think beating the hobbled Steelers in Denver and beating the Pats in NE are two different things.

Packers/Giants is a tough pick but I figure if there will be an upset that is the most likely one. Also, Fark has a few obnoxious Packer fans who managed to turn me against a fairly likeable team.

49ers could beat the Saints and I wouldn't be shocked but I think they'll line up Akers to kick once or twice when they needed 7.

Texans beating Ravens isn't that out there of a pick but I'll likely put money on the Ravens

As much as I hate it, Pats are the lock of the week. Hope I'm wrong but I think the Broncos played their Superbowl yesterday.

glassbottomboatcaptain: IMO Tebow's continued success is proof of the non-existence of the Christian God.

Because if said deity was real, he would no doubt be so revolted by this person having the gall to pray for something so trivial when there are so many actual, dire, problems in the world, and even worse, assuming that those petty prayers are being answered over the mothers of missing children, etc, that he would devote at least a tiny bit of his attention towards handing this jackass one calamity after another for the rest of his life.

Butthurt much?

I like how you're defining Tebow's god for him, then judging Tebow based on your definition of said god. Clearly you hate Tebow for legitimate reasons, and not just because he's a super nice guy who happens to be super religious.

Meh. Much like Duke (and a $2 hooker), NE sucks!

I'm not a Broncos fan, but I feel bad for Tebow. The kid's under a microscope - not because
of his ability (or lack thereof, depending on which camp you're in), but because of his openness
about his faith. If he went around wearing a kufi, nobody would even blink.

Anywho, my point is that I'd rather see just about ANY team win over NE. Except for Dallas.
They can EABOD.

Serious question: What was the justification for the "if the offense scores a TD on first possession..." exception in the new OT rules? I can't think of any good ones, and I didn't hear any analysts discuss this last night.

2012-01-09 10:25:40 AM
Was it just me, or did that last TD pass by Tebow seem like he was looking directly at the receiver and winding up for 10 seconds? How did Pitt not know where he was throwing the ball? And how do you give up 300+ yards passing while limiting a QB to 10 completions? That's awful.

2012-01-09 10:26:17 AM
He was really throwing a pretty deep ball last night. Can anyone explain to me how he can hit a guy in stride from 40-50 yards but misses his receivers on 12 yard curl routes? I mean, those deep passes looked really good.

RedZoneTuba: Serious question: What was the justification for the "if the offense scores a TD on first possession..." exception in the new OT rules? I can't think of any good ones, and I didn't hear any analysts discuss this last night.

The justification is that it eliminates the previous format where a FG on the first possession could win the game. The NFL doesn't want to encourage OT but since most people didn't like teams winning on a cheap FG they made this compromise. What doesn't make sense about it?

The old rule was "first to score is the winner".
There was a perception of something feeling not right about someone getting to the 35 and kicking a field goal, I guess, and the coin toss often determining the winner of the game.
Adding the ability to respond to a field goal is to incentivize attempting to score the TD (but take the FG if held to 4th down at some point on the drive, of course) and weaken the importance of the coin toss as the determinant of winner.

I don't know the official rationalization, but that's a discussion I saw/heard.

A 40 to 50 yard pass usually involves the receiver getting under the ball. A short strike is more dependent on the accuracy of the throw than the long strike.

FriarReb98: Nana's Vibrator: Much like a priest, that Steeler secondary was very exposed.

This. Like I said in the main thread, Ike and Gay and every other DB has to go after this. They're horrible, and at least 80% of Tebow's yards can be pinned squarely on them not being capable of actually covering a wide receiver. And before the "b-b-b-but Troy" shiat starts, the guy KNOWS how much the DBs suck and is overcompensating. You stop making him overcompensate and he won't be out of position trying to cover their farking asses anymore.

The amount of free passes that Steeler fans give Palumalu (sp?) is hilariious. He is a shadow of his former self. The guy is pretty good against the run but sucks sweaty Somoan balls in pass coverage.

I believe because the complaint was that a good return and/or one good pass and a field goal doesn't give the other team a fair chance. Give up a TD and you can't complain.

At least thats how I understand it to be...
