Fun Fact: Rick Santorum was a lawyer for the World Wrestling Federation, and argued that wrestling should be exempt from steroid testing because wrestling is not a sport.

You guys need to back off on the picture of Santorum's daughter. If you just found out Rick was going to molest you later that night, you'd be crying too.

Lord Binky: The look on his son's face in that pick still cracks me up. His daughter sobers me though. The crying is one thing, but the doll and her hands... I'm just gonna look at the son again.

The one who really depresses me is the girl in back. I met girls like that when I was trapped in evangelical christianity. Twenty-five years old and still mentally twelve, scared of the world, following their dad around and waiting until they could be introduced to someone who was appropriate. Arranged marriages aren't dead in the United States, and it's not brown people doing it.

She's one of those, and she's famous and she's rich and her entire mind is going to be locked into a shoebox unless something amazing shakes up her life. She's a living prop, and that scares the hell out of me.

No shiat? Dammit, I am now forced to practice my wikijutsu on Mr. Santorum.

Speaking of wrestling, what if he was El Santorum, la Enmascarada de Caca?

Of course it isn't hostile - it's just a funny picture. People seeing the picture for the first time who have no idea who Santorum is (and thus no reason for hostility) will still laugh at it - it's just that funny. It's sort of like the infamous paint huffer picture - people laugh and make jokes about it despite the fact that they have nothing against the guy personally.

Actually, that would be an awesome question for Santorum in a debate!

"Mr. Santorum, you argued that wrestlers should be allowed to use steroids. Do you feel any regret for the dozens of wrestlers (Chris Benoit being one example) who were injured or died as a direct result of that policy?"

I don't mind the picture. It is what it is. But dredging it up years later as the punchline to a fark headline is petty and vindictive. Really we don't need to stoop to mocking his kids. He is plenty mockworthy on his own.

From Boehner, Pelosi, Kerry and a host more lining their pockets (while not having to pay any mind to insider trading rules) to the recently voted out getting lobbying/consulting gig and board appointments, it's hard to be broke when you leave office anymore.

Agreed, but they don't all pretend to be pious moral beacons.

Good luck getting into heaven that wealthy santorum.

You say "dredging it up" as though it's some obscure thing that's only just now being brought up to spite the guy. The truth is, this is an iconic photograph - this is the picture against which all future awkward political awkward family photo-ops will be measured. Everything about it is perfect, and the girl is the centerpiece. It's a legendary photo - I've shown it to friends and family members who couldn't even name the political parties in the US, much less Rick Santorum personally, and just about all of them agree that it's just about one of the oddest and funniest non-staged pictures they've seen.

All this is quite separate from how people feel about Rick himself, and there's no need to conflate the two. People might dislike Rick Santorum and find this picture amusing; indeed, they might even reference the picture while criticizing the guy or just generally snarking around, but that doesn't mean that they hate everybody else in the picture too.

I think sports teams should be sponsored by drug companies and they should have patches and decals like in NASCAR.

At least then we would know which drugs were best.

Wrong daughter; Bella, the one with Edwards syndrome is three and a half years old. (The one with the doll has her own set of learning disabilities thanks to being homeschooled, but by any reckoning, I figure she's in her tweens by now.)

FTL: ""You're robbing children of something that they need, they deserve, they have a right to. They have a right to be know and be loved by their dad or their mom," Santorum told the students."

Don't be too merciful. I've noticed that 99.99% of the time, the offspring of right wing republicans tend to be just as nasty if not even more vicious than their parents. The home-schooled kind (which she was) increases the likelihood by a horrific factor. This is how/why we get Epic Assholes of the Kim Jung Un and Uday Hussein variety.

Which is a point of near-rage for me. The doctrine is VERY clear, abortion and the Death Penalty are equally bad, and yet we heard plenty of Catholic Bishops condemning Kerry for being pro-choice (as is their right) but nary a peep about the fact that W had set a world record for executions while Governor of Texas

The Catholic church in America has been taken over by ideologues. If Rome has any integrity at all, they should really be worried about American Bishops putting their fingers on the scale of sin.

CSB, the Arch Diocese of Philadelphia just closed like... half a dozen schools. At least one of them ended up being sold to a charter school organization. After members of the school board worked their asses off trying to find buyers and partners who were willing to maintain the schools current level of funding, curriculum, etc.

The Arch Diocese of Philadelphia is about to experience a dramatic drop in Sunday morning donations. There's a campaign going now to drop your envelope in the collection basket with nothing but a note in there expressing your displeasure at the management of funds and demanding greater transparency.

Are they paying for better schools locally? Or are they paying for another layer of gilding on one of the statues at the Vatican? (Or more likely for settlement fees, political payoffs, and power moves)
