Its a good thing Santorum is the son of a coal miner and he's a blue collar guy and America doesn't have an upper class a middle class or a lower class.

I really hope he gets the nomination. His rich, frothy goodness is just the ticket we need to keep the republicans out of the white house.

News Corp. in New York paid Santorum $239,153 for his appearances on Fox News Channel.

The ONLY reason for any Republican to run for office these days.

Call me a softie, but I always felt bad for her. Maybe it's because I have daughters. She was too young at that age to realize what an assbag her dad is.

You could rewrite this with just about anyone on either side. From Boehner, Pelosi, Kerry and a host more lining their pockets (while not having to pay any mind to insider trading rules) to the recently voted out getting lobbying/consulting gig and board appointments, it's hard to be broke when you leave office anymore.

"It's ironic that he portrays himself in his campaign as a Washington outsider. He's a quintessential insider. He's an incredibly rich, highly paid consultant."

Republicans pretending to be something they're not is the opposite of ironic actually

I don't give a big rat's ass how he earns his money. He's not mentally fit to be president, I mean let's not forget he brought his dead infant home to meet his brothers and sisters and slept with it and sang it lullabys. If that isn't enough to convince you, then I don't know what is.

And just think, that's only what he admits to doing with the dead infant. Politicians never tell the whole truth. It's entirely possible that Rick Santorum is a necropedophile.

I heard Jack Abramoff being interviewed on NPR about his call to tighten corruption rules and this is why I agree with him. We will never be able to trust politicians until there are rules that will make it impossible to cash in from being in office.

I'm sorry, but that photo never gets old. He's the one that brought them up there as "pro-family" props, and I'm happy to castigate him for that and all his hideous and ridiculous ideas. I don't blame them personally, but that just made for one goofy-looking bit of schadenfreude.

CSB: After he got out of jail, Jack Abrmamoff moved to the Jewish neighborhood of Northwest Baltimore and worked at a Kosher pizza restaurant. He was kind of a local "celebrity" here for a while.

For some reason, I picture him forcing his family to play some twisted combination of bible trivia and russian roullette when he's upset.

I won't bring up the dead baby thing, even *I* think that crosses the line.

a lot of that money can for lobbying to get hospital payouts from taxpayers increased.
that actually might not actually be the most unreasonable position, but it probably wouldn't even be necessary if congress hadn't froze funding to the doctor residency programs 1997 in order to increase their salaries (because congress was heavily lobbied by the doctors, of course), thus raising healthcare costs including to hospitals.

anyway we are screwed. congress writes no legislation without being paid off first at this point. we need to limit congressional election campaigns to $200k (plus matching funds) and 30 days and the candidate pool to eunuchs that have taken a vow of poverty at this point, or something.

Doyner (and VernonFL and buckler) - totally agree with you - he shouldn't use his kids as props (though every politician that has a family does that), but even so, do the kids deserve hostility? They didn't choose to be born to that family. They probably don't even have the ability to choose to not be used as election props.

Lay the blame on Rick Santorum. "Look, he's such a heartless jerk he doesn't even notice his daughter crying right next to him" or something.

What a marvellous and bootstrappy success story of making bank by saying gay people are destroying civilization and are worse than criminals.

I see his wife with him in campaign photos, but that's pretty standard fare. I've never seen his kids outside of that infamous photo--but perhaps there's a huge stash of santorum pics I've never seen. Its not unusual to have your family with you on election night--winning or losing a Federal election is kind of a big deal.

I agree completely

Look I know it's shocking to see a display of sincere emotion on a political campaign but we're talking about a little kid here. Could you guys just lay off the damn kids? I know their parents exploit them but does that really require that we treat them in just as callow a fashion? It's not like she had a choice in the matter.

My beef with Santorum is that he claims to be an Orthodox Catholic - BUT he is for the death penalty and pro-torture and pro-war.

You can't be Catholic and be pro-death penalty and pro-war. The Catholic Church was and is very clear on those issues.

But you can be catholic and be pro-pedophile.

In fact, you HAVE to be pro-pedophile if you belong to that cult.

You also have to be one of the stupidest farks on earth to give money to that piece of shiat organization.

I knew the doctrinal stance but I didn't know he made the claim. There's a certain kind of delicious irony that he would regard the pro-gay-marriage catholics (of whom there are a ton) as lukewarm.

The look on his son's face in that pick still cracks me up. His daughter sobers me though. The crying is one thing, but the doll and her hands... I'm just gonna look at the son again.
