In the school district my 3 kids(future step ones) attend, only the youngest, in Kindergarten gets a free meal of any type, breakfast.
The other two have to bring or buy lunch(2.50 a day)
I wouldn't mind a few more fatasses if it meant that they got a healthy free meal.

School Lunch programs are just raising a new generation of fat, lazy, socialist, Democrat voting pigs. Real Americans go hungry if they can't afford to eat. It builds character.

There is no "free meal" in here anywhere. You just don't see where you paid. You did. They did. We did. Y'all did.

Obesity is rampant with the poor. Let's just put that out there, starvation isn't happening in America.
But never let the truth get in the way of a good bleeding-heart meme.

Let's see, poor people in America are more likely to be obese....but the kids need breakfast...so let's see, either we can cut breakfasts entirely or just make the cafeteria serve more fruits and veggies.
I know what we should do!

I work in an urban school district, and we have started a program similar to the one discussed in the article, where at some high poverty schools (all elementary at this point, I believe) the students all eat breakfast in their classroom. The whole point is that children who are poor and may not be eating at home do not feel stigmatized by going to the cafeteria in the morning when their peers are not getting food. This isn't as big of a deal at lunch, when every kid is eating in the cafeteria and you can't tell who is on free lunch and who has money in an account.
I would much rather programs like this continue and we ensure that children are fed, healthy, and able to learn than worry about a handful of children who get an extra meal. Priorities, some of us have them.

It is a true fact: If you eat less food, you will lose weight. (Are you going to contradict 10 million prisoners of war?)
Problem is, if you're also expected to sit still and learn in a classroom, the distraction of a growling tummy retards the process. (Unless someone is standing over you with a gun. Then you probably learn faster.)

My Middle School and High School kids ate breakfast at school. Instead of eating at home at 5:45, since they had to be outside for the bus at 6:10, they ate at 7. School seemed to rotate through the same basic menu choices. Milk or OJ with the option of English Muffin, assorted Fruit Muffin, Bagel with fruit or cream cheese to top it, some type of fresh fruit. I will admit there were times they would eat twice. Usually during winter when they'd eat some oatmeal before heading out to stand out in the cold.

obesity is rampant in the poor because buying healthy foods at the grocery store costs 2 to 3X as much as buying over processed, high fat, high sugar government subsidized food products invented by the big corporations to make people into food junkies. oh, and sugar is used as a substitute to keep your body from craving what it really needs: meat. ....so when ever poor people have a few dollars to rub together they go to Micky D's because it makes their brain happy in an otherwise pleasure-less existence. I recall as youngster sometimes they gave us scrambled eggs for lunch as a side. They were green, had little holes in them that made it look like a giant sponge. And was scooped out with an ice cream scooper, so it was perfectly round and unnatural. Keep your free breakfast. I had no problem making a sammich, bagging chips, carrots and a bottle of water. Maybe a little debbie too.

I'm an interpreter. I know of kids who qualify for such programs based on (faked) family income. These kids go to get the free breakfast in the cafeteria and sit and talk because it's a social event for them--not to be missed. Then all the food gets tossed into the garbage bin-- wasted, when it could have gone to a child truly in need of a nutritious breakfast. Stuff like this--and other egregious waste in bureaucratic programs--is what chaps my a$$.

Actually, eating more often maintains a healthy level of blood sugar, keeping your body from kicking into "starvation" mode. Want to be thin. Eat 8 times a day, small meals. Snack between meals. Make healthy food choices, and you'll lose weight.

It's only more expensive if you're too stupid to cook. It's not particularly difficult to make a filling, tasty, and nutritious meal on the cheap and then eat leftovers for the rest of the week. Or hell, consistently make these meals, freeze them, and that way you get to rotate leftovers so you're not eating the same meal each day of the week.
Now, this involves thinking and not sitting their fatasses in front of the TV watching whatever stupidity the networks are pumping out, but I strongly suspect that the poor won't even bother to try - it's easier to try and fleece those who earn a salary for free food via food stamps and other programs.

Enough o this crap.
You want to know who is "stupid"?
Start with a simple truth.
"Diet" anything makes you fat.
Artificial sweetners have no "calories".
"Calories" are not the lie you believe!
Some sugar your body can use for metabolism, lets just say "burn".
Half of regular white sugar can be burned and it tastes bad without the other half that cannot be burned.
You can claim "no calories" if it is not burned.
Still goes directly to fat where there is no such thing as "burn".
No calorie sweetners taste sweet. Real sweet. "Zero calories" because your body cannot metabolize them.
Still a sugar(just not one your body can use), what to do with it?
MAKE FAT!
All that "zero calorie" crap is still making you fat!
/stupid is as stupid does

Seriously?!
I think I found the problem. The school is serving sugary (simple & complex) crap for breakfast instead of stuff that will make the kids feel full like eggs, meat, cheese, and maybe some veggies. (Oh noes, so expensive!) The one time they serve meat, they've even drenched it in a sugar sauce.
Schools and parents really shouldn't be in the business of limiting the calories that kids consume - their bodies are growing and need quite a bit. What they should be doing is making sure what they do consume is of good quality - and due to the influence of our agriculture industry, our school meal policies are just as bad for them as neglectful parents.
Bottom line is, kids wouldn't eat so much in the morning (nor get as hungry before lunch) if they had quality food. Guess what that results in? Fewer fat kids.

My sons and I are considered "poor people" because for a long time I struggled until I landed a great job. Poor doesn't automatically equal stupid anymore than being rich makes you classy (I am looking at you, Donald Trump).
At one time I was on food stamps to stretch my food budget when a man in line said "tell me thank you." When I asked him for what, he replied "for paying for your food." I then told him to thank me for being a veteran and ensuring his right to be an asshole to complete stranger.
Seriously, if letting kids go hungry because their parents don't belong to a country club is okay with you, then you should make sure you never lose your job or your livelihood.

You want fewer fat kids? How about real gym classes. Make the kids actually run for the entire period. Are they fat? Make them run more. For them there's no recess unless it's a physical game where they're running. Cattle prods all around.
Hell - that might force the teachers to be in shape, too. Everyone wins!
