It's been suggested that Stephen Hawking's A Brief History of Time was plagiarized from my 7th grade science papers.

Say a few words, Stephen!

I feel bad for that. I just saw a story that he isnt well enough to attend his party.

He's not a genius. He spouts theories. Theories are unproven ideas.

"The edge is the universe is 400 trillion light years away.". There's my theory, and I have a bunch of fancy equations to back me up. Can you disprove my theory? Obviously not. If you try, I'll just tell you your squiggly lines are wrong and I'll still remain king of the theoretical hill.

Let's be honest - we call Hawking a hero because he's in a wheelchair and he talks through a box. If he were a fully functioning human being, he'd be just another guy.

Maybe, or it could be that he is pretty smart. He holds the same position as Newton did at that fancy college in England.

My sincere appreciation for knowledge and the comprehension of subjects so important, yet so out of reach, for me anyhow, aside, Hawking can also rhyme like a motherfarker.

I think he's unlocked the secret to immortality in his head, but stuck in a frame that's degrading still. Sucks.

Hawking was asked about his IQ in a 2004 newspaper interview, and replied, "I have no idea. People who boast about their I.Q. are losers." Yet when asked "Are you saying you are not a genius?", Hawking replied "I hope I'm near the upper end of the range." ~ Solomon, Deborah (12 December 2004). "The Science of Second-Guessing: Questions for Stephen Hawking". New York Times. http://www.nytimes.com/2004/12/12/magazine/12QUESTIONS.html.

His answer alone makes him a genius in my book. And for the record, a genius is a title we give to people with a certain IQ rating. Rather you like it or agree with it Atomic Spunk, I suspect he is a genius.

Maybe Stephen's intelligence is influencing the intartubes today?

Here come the people attempting to dismiss the genius of those who have a command of difficult technical subjects. Hawking, like everyone else in his field, had to work incredibly hard for years in order to learn some genuinely complicated ideas. He has no reason to listen to criticism from someone whose scientific education consists of having once read a book by Robert Heinlein.

Anyone who thinks Hawking isn't a genius probably also thinks of calculus as "higher math" (for elitists).

I hate reporters sometimes. That follow-up question was one of the dumbest things I read all morning.

"Do you know the exact value of variable x?"
"No, I don't know."
"So you're saying that x is less than c (where c is probably around 130 or so)?"
"I hope it's higher than 130, but where in the heck did you get 'I know the value of x' from my statement that I don't know the value of x?"

Now here's a thought.

Given what he has a disease of nerve degradation, and what he does as a job is possibly the most extreme use of the brain, could his incredible longevity be linked to his massive overuse of the nerve fibres he does have working?

Sort of an extreme version of "Sudoku to ward off dementia" sort of thing?
