Happy 70th birthday (in two days), Dad. Thanks for introducing me to Stephen Hawking's stuff.

If it weren't for Britian's universal health care system, he never would have made it this far.

Here come the people attempting to dismiss the genius of those who have a command of difficult technical subjects. Hawking, like everyone else in his field, had to work incredibly hard for years in order to learn some genuinely complicated ideas. He has no reason to listen to criticism from someone whose scientific education consists of having once read a book by Robert Heinlein.

Anyone who thinks Hawking isn't a genius probably also thinks of calculus as "higher math" (for elitists).
