I hope the Denver Tebows win, if only to make John Elway's life miserable.

/Still not over the '98 season.

Pittsburgh's got this locked up. The Broncos can't score.

Right, Tebow haters?

I do think Pittsburgh will take this one, but Denver's defense will make it a much better game than it deserves to be. Even without Ryan Clark the Steelers defense will lock the Donkos down, and when their defense fades from exhaustion the Steelers will put the close-out points on the board.

24-7, Pittsburgh

I was wrong on both yesterday.....I had the Bengs with an upset (line was 4.5 i think, not sure) and I picked Detroit (10.5) to cover.

@ NYG (-3)

I heard either Schatz of that Millman guy on Bill Simmons the other day, they said the Giants record is deceptive as they had the 3rd hardest schedule in the NFL. that may be, and I've been questioning NYG all year and they keep proving me wrong. Both teams were 4-4 OTR/Home......I'm gonna say ATL. Eli hasn't had an Eli game in about a month and, well, Eli is due for an Eli game. You know. 24-35, 220, 1TD, 3 INT.

Game hinges on Giants D-Line. Pretty fearsome bunch.

@ DEN (+8.5)

that seems low....I know Ben is dinged up, but the Donkos will also be without a key player (Dawkins) so that may be soemthing of a push....Supposedly Tebow will be takign a play from the Brett Favre book and be twirlin' the pill all over the field. Yeah. How about no? Steelers were the AFC's stingiest in yards per (272) and points per (14.2). Donks, meanwhile, were AFC 12th in yard (358) and 13th at 24.4.

I liked Dick LeBeau's quote, when asked about whether his aging team is takign this postseason campaign more seriously (the "sense of urgency" cliche): "I'll leave that to the poets and the philosophers," LeBeau said. "We don't talk about it. We don't think about it. We go with what we got. That's one of the reasons we can handle adversity. We do a good job of taking a punch right in the jaw and coming back and playing the next down." (new window). ha. from "poets and philosphers" to getting punched in the jaw. good stuff.

I know some were floating this is Seahawks / Saints 2011, but...no. Donks lost 3 straight to back into the playoffs at 8-8, meanwhile Pittsburgh had to win to get in, so they're on a 2 game win streak. Bloodbath. No way Donkos cover.

rickythepenguin: .I'm gonna say ATL

as for the spread, i say ATL outright.....3 isn't much and it seems liek wild card weekend rarely has close games. i haven't looked at the last few years but my snap memory is that wild card games are rarely close (i know, Jets and Colts fans, teh Jets won by 1 point last year).

It isn't a very scientific analsys -- "wild card games are never that close -- but go back and look at the last few years of WIld Card weekend. there's the occasional 5 or 6 piont win, the aforementioned Jet 1 pointer, but far more 30-7, 27-9, 35-14, 17-6, 37-16 type games. now, i'm not saying ATL will win 35-17, i'm just saying the game will not finish -- either way -- within 3 pionts.

Especially if they cut out the post-tackle celebrations. Come on, guys, you just gave up 5yds, no need to make like a plane.

No way Donkos cover.

I'm rooting for them, anyway. There'll be more to talk about over the next week.

2012-01-08 11:09:19 AM
Oh also, i heard on the radio that supposedly, if Tebow sucks, the Donkos will not hesitate to throw Brady Quinn into the game.

Let's take a quick look at Brady Quinn's 2011 season numbers:

Games played?
Games started?
Passes thrown?
TDs?
INT?
QB Rating?

ZERO.

how about his 2010 statistics?

Games played?
Games started?
Passes thrown?
TDs?
INT?
QB Rating?

ZERO.

He hasn't taken a live NFL snap since December 20, 2009.

Yeah.....he's not taken a live snap as a donko, and you're going to throw him in a playoff game?

rickythepenguin: Yeah.....he's not taken a live snap as a donko, and you're going to throw him in a playoff game?

It's a psychology thing. When Elway/Fox wouldn't commit to Tebow he was tearing it up, as soon as they started saying he was the permanent (for now) QB the losing streak started.

/Really, what this means is that it's looking like Andy Dalton will take the Delhomme lead into the divisional round.

Well, got crap I have to do today. Enjoy the games. Hoping I get back in time to catch some of game 2. Go Giants and uh..Tebows, I guess.

Not a bloodbath, but definitely not Seatrolls 2: Electric Boogaloo. The last few weeks cemented the playbook on Tebow: Man up on his receivers, and keep him in the box. This defense might let a few passes through, but nothing else. On the flip side, that Steeler offense has its issues right now, but should eventually wear them down like they wear down all inferior opponents.

17-13 Steelers.

So you have Steelers scoring more points against Denver than they did against the Browns? I hope that prediction includes a touchdown by the D/ST

Have you seen Pittsburgh on the road? Add to the fact they always let bad teams hang around. The spread is what, 9? I'd be afraid to put any money on that.

Denver's defense isn't Denver's defense any longer. They had some key imjuries the past few weeks, which hurt them badly.

Pitt should win with ease

Doom and Gloom are gonna pound Rapistberger into the turf repeatedly! If he throws a couple picks, the Bronco Defense can win this game! My hope is that during Tebow Time, Harrison gets called for unneccesary roughness and Prater kicks a 60 yarder for the WIN!

Also, suck it Raiders, Chargers and Chefs! The AFC West is OURS!

Have you seen Denver's defense? They're a solid bunch. Ben's banged up, Mendenhall's out. I think Pittsburgh wins, I have no confidence that they cover.

To be fair, I also wouldn't put money on Denver to beat the spread.

Teams that have won a playoff game more recently than the New England Patriots:
Giants
Cardinals
Chargers
Ravens
Eagles
Steelers
Jets
Cowboys
Saints
Colts
Vikings
Seahawks
Packers
Bears
Texans

Broncos defense
Yards against: 20th
Points against: 24th
Vs pass: 18th
Vs run: 22nd
Sacks: tied 10th
Interceptions: tied 28th
Forced fumbles: 26th

I really don't understand this whole "Denver defense" thing. The best offense that they managed to hold under 20 was San Diego in week 12 (before they got hot). Against other playoff teams they gave up 22 (Cincinnati), 49 (Green Bay), 45 (Detroit), and 41 (New England); all of those totals are higher than the respective team's average offensive output. Am I missing something here?

/Not picking on you, yours was just the most recent "Denver D" post. ;)

I have to give props to DISH Network today. They've got a technician installing new dish/receiver here in the backwoods on a Sunday! We will be good to go before the first kickoff! In fact, we are good to go as of right now!!

Also, given Rapistberger's proclivities, and Harrison's thug nature, God may indeed choose to intervene in this game!

Denver's D was keeping them in games enough against teams that were within reach of beating. Had their D not shown up like it had the first 5 games and the last 3, Denver would be 6-10, or far worse.

GimpyNip: That's interesting and all but the only thing the Steeler offense that is playing today has in common with the Packers, Lions, and Pats is that they're all in the playoffs. I mean, how can you really just throw that out there with such limited qualification?

Also, Hines Ward is half-Asian.

Admittedly, Roethlisberger gimpy + no Mendenhall = limited Pittsburgh offensive ability. But all it's going to take is one or two big plays to those WRs, and I definitely see that happening. I really don't see this one being within one score at the end.
