(USA Today)   Southern rednecks rejoice as new law allows them to skin and eat roadkill. Wait... the law is from Illinois? Whoops, sorry about the stereotyping there, Jethro   ( divider line

cmb53208: Automator: Teen Wolf Blitzer: It always amuses me when people think rednecks are only from the south.

I'm from Alabama, lived there for twenty-four years. Then I moved to Chicago, lived in the South Loop for two and now in the burbs for almost four. Whenever anyone I meet here makes a crack about Alabama and racism, I just remind them that Chicago is segregated.

Pfft, when it comes to racism the suburbs of Chicago and Milwaukee make the South look like farking Haight-Ashbury.

The whole city of Chicago is segregated . Has been forever .

Zeno-25: Don't worry subby, once you get south of I-74 five miles beyond the (former) EJ&E main line in Illinois it might as well be Kentucky or Missouri, so you're not too off-base.

FTFY. Rednecks aren't limited to the South.

The Southern Creep is the worst thing happening to this country. Yes, worse than Obummer.

You hillbillies and rednecks have taken over my learning channels, and now you're about to crawl north of I-80. Nobody wants you here. Just GTFO.

Submitter has obviously seen only a tiny portion of Illinois. Most of the state would do Kentucky or Arkansas proud.

hilendar: I have to verify much of what was said above about south of I-74. I have relatives that lived in a little town called Galatea (sp) between Benton and Harrisburg. I found out in my sole visit down there in 1977 that southern Illinois is more redneck than some of the deepest parts of the south. It didn't matter that I had relatives in town, I was still disliked because I was from 'up Norf' as they said it (and I lived 60 mi. south of Chicago). In a college town in east central IL, as late as 1983, if you had a black face, you didn't go out after dark (I'm white). I lived in IL for my first 30 years and I wouldn't wish that jail sentence on anyone (and I have relatives in Bloomington now). For those still there - escape while you can! If you can't, get north of I-74 (except for Kankakee which is STILL a hole!) or west of I-55. Chicago's a great place to visit, living there is another story.

Hey! I resemble that remark!

Molavian: It depends on what part of the state you're in and if you have your dick-shaking permit paid for and on you.

Those permits don't have reciprocity in New York, and even New York State dick-shaking permits aren't honored in New York City.

/ Found out the hard way.

Whoops, sorry about the stereotyping there, Jethro

Don't worry about it. We're used to northerners confusing their own flaws for ours. The inbred simpletons tend to get confused very easily. Especially by anything reflective.

david_gaithersburg: Man On Fire: Lando Lincoln: david_gaithersburg: Good lord, what is with the states run by progressives. I bet they even have laws governing how you can hold your dick while you're peeing.

Progressives run Illinois? Since when?

You don't really know what a Progressive is, do you.

Nope. Glenn Beck just told him it was evil, so he uses it as a curse word.

Another person who has never heard of former senator Obama. Do you people live under a rock?

I live in Illinois fool. we don't make any progressives here.

/we import them from Kenya.

Born in Bloomington, live in Peoria now but have also lived other places (including Chicago for several years). People draw the boundary in different places (somewhere there's a map dividing Illinois into Chicago Cubs fans and St. Louis Cardinal fans--the Chicago White Sox are strictly an in-town phenomenon, apparently), but one of the most useful dividing lines is simply to extend the Mason-Dixon line west to the Mississippi, which would cut off Ohio just south of Columbus, Indiana just south of Indianapolis, and Illinois just south of Springfield. North of it you've got the Great Lakes part of the states, and south you've got the Ohio Valley. (Most of Illinois' universities are north of the line; SIU is known as the state's party school.)

As far as who would benefit from Chicago leaving the state, well... that depends on who gets the collar counties, i.e. the counties adjoining Cook County that pay out more in state taxes than they get back.
