The Saints weren't exactly the Steel curtain out there either.

Obvious tag busy? The Saints are a force of nature. Maybe a healthy Denver defense could hold them off, but it would be rough.

2012-01-08 01:46:08 AM
The Saints were the better team but Detroit got screwed on a couple of calls that would have made it a lot more interesting. I'm talking about the fumble that was blown dead and the spot on 3rd down.

Refs also seemed to lack the glasses on a Saints fumble, but the Saints should have won the game anyway.

Game turned when Detroit had closed to 3 points and, with the Saints knocking on the doorstep of another TD, Brees aired up an easy pick and the Detroit defender let it go right through his hands, arms, and legs damn near without touching it. It was the easiest INT of his career. I guess that's why he's a DB and not a WR

I'm not saying that the refs cost the Lions this game, but after the Packers game, I'm not shocked the Saints were called for 0 offensive holds. You certainly could argue that two extra possessions and 4 points certainly would have given the Lions a win in the Packers game.

My brother thinks I'm insane, but I think the Saints are taking the NFC. i never call the super bowl till we get the teams, but right now, there's no team I would want to face LESS then the Saints.

/Go Giants, Beat Atlanta.

If Detroit's secondary could actually catch balls thrown directly at them, then that game would have been a whole hell of a lot closer.

Still, fun game.

Detroit doesn't really belong in the playoffs anyway. Nice go at it this year. Next year is a return to normalcy.

Yes, predicting the greatest offense of all time with a 13-3 record to win the NFC is pure madness.

Seriously, how could that be considered insane by anyone?

2012-01-08 02:39:34 AM
Didn't get to watch the game, looks like it was still a game (24-21) till NO pulled away in the 4th.

Was kind of hoping for a rematch of handshake-gate. Should be interesting to see the matchup between (arguably) the best offense vs the best D. My guess is the Saints take it.

I gotta think the Giants beat the Falcons tomorrow, too, which makes an interesting matchup of the Giants at the Pack. Giants played them tough in the fist game and I think they're playing better now - and are in the position the Pack were in last year, having been playing with their backs against the wall for several weeks. Though this one will be at Lambeau instead of the Meadowlands.

Because he's got a mancrush on Aaron Rodgers. He's a complete mark, in the "It's still real to me dammit" vein, for him.

Hats off to the better team but what's with the retarded blown dead call on a fumble and Mr. Magoo spot by the refs in the 3rd?

They were called for offensive pass interference, but that penalty was offset by a Detroit penalty...

Just sayin'...

I wouldn't count the Falcons out that fast, they match up real well against the Giants. And it seems refs of all sports are out for New York teams lately ::Cough::winterclassic::Cough::

Still, assuming the Giants do beat the Falcs (like I supremely hope they do), the Packers matchup is actually good for the Giants I think - it's not NO or SF who I think both would beat the Giants handily. They were one completely blown call from winning the previous meeting, and the Giants are indeed healthier now, and the Giants, Coughlin and Eli have a history of going into Lambeau and winning big in January (see 2008, getting them to the Super Bowl v. the Pats - BTW that was a MUCH better game then the Super Bowl.).

Okay, we all know that as a QB, Tim Tebow stinks.
But he has one huge advantage over Big Ben.
no its not that he's not recovering from a high ankle sprain.
its that It was Ben, not Tebow, who recently appeared on the cover of Sports Illustrated.

I would put about zero stock in that 2008 game predicting anything.

Kind of. If Rapey Ben were healthy I'd say they stood zero chance, but if R.B. is as ineffective as he was against SF, they have a chance.

While I concede that we got a generous spot on that third down call, I think Stafford got a lucky break on his rushing TD.
That whole unreturnable fumble thing was a snafu on the refs' part. One blew the play dead thinking incomplete pass, so they got the fumble recovery but no chance to run it back.
That being said..

Okay class; has no one watched the Steelers on the road? Nobody remembers the Stillers holding off a charge by Curtis farking Painter? Forgotten the abysmal outings in Houston and Baltimore? Pittsburgh has a bad habit of playing down to bad teams and getting stomped by good ones on the road. As a Stiller fan I'm nervous about a road game against The Mighty Tebows.

I'm telling you, I'm smelling Saints/Seahawks on that one.

Anyway, very good win tonight. Hopefully it'll be 10 in a row in San Francisco for a spot in the final four. Also hopefully, Giants come on down to the Superdome in a couple weeks, hehe. Who dat!

I figure that, given Steeler injuries etc, Denver has at least a chance. But if the Broncos actually manage to win, it will most likely be despite Tebow, not because of him.

That's my worthless opinion, and I'm sticking with it.

Until I change my mind.

This year is going to be great for defense/offense. I don't recall any time (well i'm only 25) that there has been such a stark contrast all over the board. SF/BAL/PIT/HOU and NE/GB/NO. I mean these teams have mediocre offenses and great defenses or great offenses and HORRIBLE defenses. This is a wacky year.

Here's to SF making a show out of it. Hopefully we get to see SF/BAL/PIT super bowl. I think I will throwup if i see a GB/NO vs NE superbowl. Real football fans would throw up at the thought of that as well.

madden football, fark.

One thing I always remember (including today when i was hoping the Lions would beat the Saints) is something that happened to me quite a few years back. A Broncos fan was caught remarking "Thank god the Steelers beat the Colts! The Broncos always lose to the Colts and now they are home free!" then the Steelers beat the Broncos (I'm pretty sure they won the super bowl that year as well).

Be carefull what you wish for! (if the Saints somehow get past the 49ers and the Giants somehow beat the Packers, you will look back at that post with dread after the Giants advance to the Superb Owl)

Oh, I know. Best laid plans and all that. Already bit me once with Steelers/Niners and having to root for...God, I can't say it. Giants are hot at the moment for sure. But hey, I should hope for the Pack? No way. Besides, it's a home game in the video arcade Thunderdome (as Bayless called it the other day) instead of heading to Lambeau. Not to mention I've got to pull for the Giants today because the alternative is just too horrifying to think about.

The great back and forth we had from the Saints/49ers thread last year sadly won't be there this year, I'ma watch the 49ers/Saints game away from the internet. I guarantee you I will be here to eat crow the day after though, if the 49ers lose. So, hopefully, that will do.

Won't be here either, actually, I'll be in Boston with my best friend who happens to be a Niners fan. And as a wise man once told me, if you want to talk shiat, you have to be prepared to eat shiat. I've eaten plenty of shiat here on Fark, lol, so.
