Oh, damn you, Mad Men. I love you, but you got greedy, and now not only did you get pushed back a year, we lost this too?

I hated the whole farm plot. "You can't judge them, how can you shoot them, maybe it is us who are the real monsters" works fine for something nuanced like BSG, but for WD, not so much. The real monsters are the ones trying to eat your face. The well scene had me actively rooting for the walkers by the end, simply because the people are so dumb.

The sexism was getting pretty damn grating too. Maybe for Season Three we'll get a female character who doesn't suck, but I'm not hopeful.

It doesn't spoil anything about season 2. It's basically an idea for an alternative season 2 opener parallel to the main plot that would have followed the story of Tank Zombie, similar in vein to the webisodes that explained the origins of Bicycle Girl.

I hit fast forward quite a bit on that season opener.

All that hokey retarded dialog and drama at the farm is evidence of deep budget cuts.

The show will eventually suck and implode. They're stepping over a dollar to pick up a quarter.

Eh, I'm at least going to watch the rest of season when it airs. It was really slow but it had some good scenes. I don't know if I'm supposed to like the girl that the 2 leads are fighting over, but I've been finding myself hoping some zombie uses her for dental floss.

Unfortunately, they never made a "Walking Dead season 2". They replaced that show with "Finding Sophia: Lets Take a Walk in The Woods." It's a story about a redneck finding himself, a who's-the-daddy Maury Povitch story, and statement about religious faith in small town america, found love and withdrawn love. I hope someday they make a second season of that show though, that would be just super.

2012-01-08 12:55:38 AM
This show is like a bag of potato chips ... doesn't really do anything for me. If I want zombie violence and gore, there's much better by people who really know what they're doing. It's still cable, no matter how they try to convince you it's not.

I won't be holding my breath for the 2nd half of the season to start again, but I'm counting the down the minutes till "Spartacus: Vengeance" starts again ...

Glenn aka The Asian Kid.
Short Round.

Let's be consistent with the names. These are the ones I think are indisputable :

Sheriff Heroic Stupid Cuckold

Cheating Whore Wife

Deputy Sploosh (or according to Aisha Tyler Deputy Girl Woody)

Amy Smart's Mom

Granny Chemo

Old Man Shocked Expression

Token Black Guy That Is So Uninteresting I Forgot He Didn't Die Already

Boondock Tweeker aaaaand....

Token Kid That Is Just A Maury Povich Episode Waiting To Happen

Sounds like Darabont planned a DEEP game but After More Commercials decided to hollow it out.

I naturally blame Obama

To everyone moaning about the farm...you do realize it was only the first half of the season right? My only complaint about farm story was how stupid the girl was. Apparently stay put and hide means leave your safe hiding place and get lost and get bitten by zombies.

Also, actually having a story where things that happen in previous episodes mean consequences for the next episodes is important. If the story went from having the boy being shot, to one episode about getting better, to the next episode of moving on it would have been stupid. If they really wanted to spend so much time on the farm this would have been the time for flashbacks. Especially since the farm is almost pristine and a reminder to everyone about normal life. Maybe that will happen in the second half.

Either way, not sure where they can go from here. I guess an episode or two to leave the farm and maybe continue on to fort benning?

I spent the wwhole time yelling at the TV "the girl is DEEEAAD! Stop going ojt in the woods dipshiats!!" Finding her in the barn was a nice twist. Should have happened 2 episodes prior.

Yeah, once they found Zombies in the barn I KNEW the girl would be one of them. I'm willing to watch the rest of Season 2 but they need to pick-up the pace.
I also love watching with my wife (who HATES scary/gory shows). She constantly reminds what stupid risk these people take in a zombie infested world and how she would have done things differently.

The whole plot about looking for the lost girl was just the groups excuse for staying on the farm when the guy that owned it wanted them to go. They knew the girl was a lost cause, they just used her search for an excuse to stay on the farm after the boy had healed up instead of heading back on the road.

Assuming the series tracks the comic books that they are based on, the farm is just about played out.

There will be other things that the party will encounter though as they travel toward Fort Benning.

You don't understand; they weren't spending so much time on the farm because the writers wanted them to, it was because AMC decided to halve the budget of their most watched show (because TV execs are goddamn morons), so they needed to make the show as cheaply as possible, which meant filming on as few sets and with as few zombies as they could get away with... Thus the farm.

Holy crap - I KNEW that soldier zombie in the tank looked familiar! I love Sam Witwer! That would have rocked! darnit.

That would have been a seriously cool season opener. I was so hoping Walking Dead would explore side stories like this flashing back to when things fell apart. Instead its been boring soap opera plots with little-to-no-zombies.

*sigh.*

I never understood how you take the most watched show in your network's history, breaking a lot of basic cable records, and yet demand a budget cut? Seriously? How do you propose that? I'm surprised they didn't shut Mad Men down after the first Emmy. Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul must be paid in actual methamphetamine.

There really is no answer other than "TV execs are often unbelievably terrible at their jobs". They also irritated Darabont to the point where he left the show and fired a bunch of the writers... because clearly, those creative types have NOTHING to do with a show's success, and can be replaced without consequence.

Everything I've read suggests that the AMC folks are getting too big for their britches. They've created something very unique and promising with their lineup, but it wouldn't surprise me at all if they kill the golden goose in the next few years.

I started watching TWD at season 2 ep 1 and 2 and was blown away by what I saw. Not because it was good but because I could not understand what people saw in the show. Melodrama bs for damn near 40 mins. I waited about 2 months and decided to give season 1 a try and it was about as good as I had heard.

AMC really f'ed up on this one. I cannot understand the thought process considering how well it did. Im not going back to any of the rest of the episodes, Im just gonna wait til the new half of the season premiers and see if they pulled their heads out of their asses.

2012-01-08 02:42:52 AM
In the comic they make a quit pit stop at the farm, then it's off to the next location.

I got the feeling that they stretched it out since it's a lot cheaper to film on a farm then what the next location entails (no spoilers), which is a shame because it really did feel like filler for many episodes. At least we still get our one token zombie per episode, just so they can keep their zombie show classification.

shinji3i : Clearly you did not grow up watching Dragon Ball Z and are able to sit through this kinda stuff.

It wasn't called "Drag-On Ball Zzzzzzz" for nothing. You'd get 1 episode worth of story stretched over the span of 3 episodes.

The DBZ Kai series does a good job of trimming the crap and tightening up the story, however.

I've really liked Season 2. Season 1 was 6 farking episodes. Admittedly episodes 4 &5 were really farking good but we had a ton of character development in season 2 and if we are going to have characters go on through this hellscape we should care about them.
