I think I saw that as an HBO movie starring Larry Fishburne. It was farking awesome. I have a hard time believing George Lucas can create a better film.

You don't need to be a person of faith to like exorcism movies. Just like you don't have to believe that vampires exist in real life to like The Lost Boys. I always find it weird when people have no problem watching a zombie flick or a vampire flick but draw the line at demon possession movies, saying, "That's not believable." Oh, come on, really? Really?

I really wish I understood the moviegoing public's obsession with just the worst, most mind-numbingly stupid horror movies. The good ones are so few and far between, but 99% of them are just awful retreads that people happily drop money to see in the theater. Those Paranormal Activity movies have had budgets ranging from $15,000 to $5 million, and all have netted between $170-200+ million at the box office. All these cheap, terrible "found footage" horror movies cost nothing to make and go for the most base, ridiculous, "gotcha!" scares and yet every single time one comes to the theater they make millions.

At least (and I mean the very least) "torture porn" horror movies, which I still find vile and soul-sucking, at least put some effort into making them look gross and unnerving. But it's good to know if I'm ever hard up for some cash I can just tape a handicam up to a ceiling fan and twirl it around my living room while I rearrange furniture and I'll make millions at the box office.

What's with all the exorcism movies of late? There weren't that many that came out after the original Exorcist, were there? And they're all the same. Starts with a woman with the look in her eye that lets you know she's possessed. Then the priest comes in, he's full of pride, so the demon taunts him with words like weapons, sharper than knives. Makes you wonder how the other half dies, it does.

So this is the Tequilasundae mini-review (spoilers afoot, but you're missing NOTHING if you've seen the red band trailer. The main problem I was having with this is that the characters couldn't possibly be this stupid. The filmmakers couldn't possibly think moviegoers are this stupid..could they?
The story is completely given away. A woman kills three people during an exorcism. Apparently the Vatican has an extradition treaty with Connecticut hospitals to take troubled patients off their hands and sedate them for 20 years. The protagonist is her daughter, and he has Shaky McDrunkenCam along to film their reunion. Apparently one can just simply WALK INTO THE VATICAN, and film an exorcism class where the premise of the film will be laid out. (must have been down the hall from molester class). There two priest reveal they've been doing exorcisms on the sly, and she should come along to see what one is like before meeting mom. Meeting goes as well as you knew it would and then it becomes YouTube testimonials on ethics and the church. After an unsuccessful attempt to exorcise Mom it all goes south. One priest gets overenthusiastic with a baptismal dunking, and just walks home. Then the daughter gets possessed, kills someone in the hospital barehanded, so the remaining priest and Shaky take her from the hospital IN THE BACK SEAT OF THE CAR. Yes you read that , a screaming maniacal woman posessed by multiple demons is apparently able to be transported in the back seat of a Ford Mondego with the headrests removed, before the inevitable happens. When the credits rolled, I heard someone say "it's only 8:20"..It was a 7:10 start with previews. Many were grumbling, and a few were applauding. This was northern Indiana after all, and I assume noone had seen The Exorcist yet. This movie was shiat. It was the Skyline of devil possession flicks.

Say what you want but movies like this are best seen at home, with all the lights off, and an easily scared lady friend.

Really? We have the Kardashians, SOPA, NDAA, The Biggest Loser, and Pat Robertson, and this mediocre movie is why we can't have nice things?

This is what I don't understand about people. "Hey, I know nothing about this movie but I'll believe the studio's marketing telling me it's good over the 99% of movie critics saying it's bad." I mean, if it was a couple critics, who cares, but all of them? There's just no way it's not going to suck.

To like these films you have to believe in ghosts. I do. But that's because I spent a few years living in a New England Manor that was haunted by a vicious spirit. So if you know ghosts than these films get under your skin instead of stuck in your craw. A very unintentionally scary film is Three Men & A Baby. That film was possessed by a ghost and you can even see it in a frame. It's wicked errie

I saw it on Friday and was not impressed. I am amazed that it is making this much money. Drat.

I hope that Contraband, Redtails, and the new Underworld movie makes much more in the coming weeks. They look like much better movies.

"Oldboy" Remake Delayed As Owen Departs

Spike Lee's remake of the highly acclaimed 2003 Korean cult classic "Oldboy" at Mandate Pictures seems to have hit a stumbling block.

Variety's Jeff Sneider posted on his Twitter a few hours ago that production on the film has been pushed back to late summer/early fall due to star Josh Brolin's press commitments for "Men in Black 3".

Shortly after that he added that Clive Owen is out as the villain in the film. At last report Owen was considering signing on as the film's main antagonist. Owen was offered the part after Colin Firth passed on the role.

The story follows a man who as kidnapped and held for 15 years in solitary confinement without explanation. He is eventually released and sets out on a path of revenge.

/me? I stayed in and watched all six of the "Thin Man" films which I had dvr'd off of TCM last month.

I remember hearing that the movie also ended with a recommendation that people go to a specific website to watch more of the footage, basically telling them that they had to go to the website to get a better ending.

I 'd say go see "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo" but that may be too much for some people. I read despite the movie not making as much money as they expected, the sequels are still being filmed. More Rooney Mara for me!!


TGWTDT subject matter was quite disturbing(I can only imagine what the books are like),but I enjoyed Mara's and Plummer's performances. The Artist isn't playing anywhere near me,so I'll probably end up catching it on Netflix.

Girl with the Dragon Tattoo was very well-acted but there's absolutely zero character development. Still, hardly like it came from the best-written source material.

Every scene with Rooney Mara is terrific. Every scene without her, you're left thinking "Hey...where's Rooney Mara?"

Actually, the movies that the Vatican REALLY doesn't want you to see have nothing to do with exorcisms at all. These would be films such as The Magdalene Sisters and Deliver Us from Evil.

There's a handful of decent-to-very-damn good) mainstream(ish) films currently in release (Hugo, Take Shelter, War Horse, J. Edgar, The Artist, Young Adult, Beginners, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, The Muppets, The Adventures of TinTin). They're just (for some inexplicable reason) dying on the vine due to lack of financial support. If every person who has ever (even once) thought or spoken aloud the sentence "There are no good films being made anymore.*" actually spent currency purchasing tickets to the meager handful of good ones still being released, maybe there would be more than a meager handful being made and released at any one time.

In summary, If you genuinely want more "Take Shelter"'s and fewer "The Devil Inside"'s then, goddammit, monetarily support the "Take Shelter"'s of the film world and tell the makers of cinema's "The Devil Inside"'s to f*ck off with your lack of dollars spent. Of those films listed, it was the one I found to be the least accomplished (and the film I'd least choose to view again). But I didn't at all feel that I was ripped off of my time when walking out of the theater.

It was the film I most had in mind with the "decent" in "decent-to-very-damn-good."
