Because this totally nullifies the fact that Gacy had a 26-person cemetery under his home.

Unless there's a Jerry Sandusky in his family, "selfish" doesn't even approach describing what this asshole is.

I agree that just because this one person wasn't killed, it doesn't negate all the other people he did kill. I'm opposed to the death penalty for and entire separate reason, the people who have been found innocent or could have been found innocent due to DNA evidence and other new investigative technologies. I'm not talking about CGI "enhance grid 34" shiat but you know what I mean. And the fact that in theory, we're supposed to be better than the criminals we prosecute.

In addition to the 7 victims buried around his yard or dumped in the Des Plaines River... And who knows how many victims we don't know about...

Also: Illinois has abolished capital punishment as of 2011.

Wow -- skipped right over that. And, looking back, the mods blew it big time. Five Gacy links submitted on 12/21, and none of them greenlighted.

2012-01-07 07:50:02 PM

Selfish turd? Unless you really know what was going on with his divorce and his relationship with his family, the knee jerk reaction that he's selfish is going overboard. Maybe it was for the best he put distance between himself and his problems or do you guys not read enough stories about people murdering their family members then committing suicide?

He said he had a disagreement with his family. So he did what he thought was best.

2012-01-07 07:51:45 PM
I remember reading this here on Fark back on the 21st of December, the mods really blew it tonight.

Apropos of nothing, seeing his name made me randomly wonder how come Hinckley was never known in the media by his complete name. It turns out he has a middle name, "Warnock". Almost all notorious killers and assassins are known by their complete names, but not him for some reason.

/Cool musing, bro

He "had a disagreement" with his family and blew them off for THIRTY-FIVE YEARS, leaving them to imagine God knows what happening to him? Like a previous poster said, unless there was some absolutely foul shiat going on, they didn't deserve that. (And frankly, the guy sounded like a jerk -- if something really nasty had been going on, I didn't get the impression that he would conceal it to protect them or anything like that). If you really can't stand your family that much, tell them you won't be there at Thanksgiving, move across the country if you want, don't give them your contact info if you're really determined to cut the cord, but at least give them a ring every now and then to let them know you're not rotting in some serial killer's basement.

/going through a divorce, hmm? Hope there weren't any kids involved. If there were, I hope they collect every cent of back child support from this guy's egomaniacal ass.

"He told the paper he figured his family could find him on the internet if they tried."

"Officials were able to find Szal as they embarked on a search to identify him as part of an ongoing effort to identify Gacy's unknown victims"

awkward.

"Szal hasn't spoken with his relatives yet. It's overwhelming, he said, and he needs to digest the news. He told police they could give his address to relatives, and they'll start with letters."

basically he doesnt even want to speak to them..... even more awkward.

"I believe Christmas has come early for the Szal family," Sheriff Dart said. "Being able to tell an 88-year-old father that his son, whose picture he has been carrying around for 34 years in his breast pocket, has been found alive is something special."

I am sure that is special. Nothing would make me more happy to find out my father wasn't murdered...instead he just didn't give a shiat about you.

So if everyone thought he was dead, how was this guy supporting himself? It is my understanding that in order to get a job (or a loan or a number of other things) you need to identify yourself. Did this dude steal somebody else's identity or something?

He was 24 at the time... Unless I'm mistaken, I thought Gacy's MO was typically much younger males?

TFA: "After talking with the detective for a while, he asked him to relay a message to his dad; he wanted his dad to know that he was still fishing, just the way his dad taught him when he was growing up."

That sounds like some kind of spy code.

Some people don't respect that. You can blunty tell them I don't want you in my life, even though you're family, but they'll find a way to guilt trip themselves back into your life.

not encouraging this but depending on the family situation that would make sense. the guys usually gets boned when it comes to divorce. whether or not it was their fault they're getting a divorce.

It sounds like he was using his own name, but since his family assumed him to be dead, they never looked for the live guy.

Also: They have been asking anyone who believes to submit DNA samples to see if they match any of the unidentified victims.

Are they on a spiritual quest? I BELIEVE, BROTHER! I BELIEVE!

Very similar, and not a repeat.

Sooo, this means there are 2 "victims" of the same mass murderer that have been found alive? wow. At first I thought this one was a repeat, thanks for posting the link to the other article RoyBatty

Let's say for example, that my name is Johnny Glasscock. Aside from having a really shiatty name, there are probably several other Johnny Glasscocks in the country with very sadistic parents. One of them goes missing. Do you really think the police will knock on my door, 300 miles away, to verify that I am not in fact, the dead Glasscock? Really?
