Rather than marrying 20 times or more in one's life via serial monogamy, we can keep one emotional lover and just have casual, meaningless -- and hot -- sex with strangers.
We gays have this down to a science.

Because women force their men out of the house with their incessant talking and nagging, thereby forcing them to bars where they meet new women that haven't yet crushed their very soul?

What utter bullshiat: "his study of
120 undergraduate men
, 78 percent of those who had a partner cheated"
And yet he gets published, instead of laughed out of the profession.
Call me when it's a study of 500 married men, or something. Sheesh
/and the other 22 percent were lying

From TFA:
You say men want to be emotionally monogamous, but their "body craves sex with other people somatically." People crave food, drugs, booze, sometimes to disastrous results. If there can be self-control with other cravings, why can't men control their body urges?
Humans are largely lousy at controlling our bodies' desires. We say we don't want to eat that Snickers bar, but we also really do want to eat it. We eat it, we feel guilty about it, and afterwards we promise ourselves not to eat one again; but we nonetheless do. It is this same phenomenon, only with cheating, that I explore.
So you're saying that
1) Human beings lack even the self-control to refrain from eating candy?
2) Cheating on your partner is the moral equivalent of caving in on your diet?
I have some friends in AA who would like to have a word with this guy...

I call shenanigans. My wife satisfies me just fine. I see a nice piece of tail and sure, I look. But I have something called personal responsibility and the knowledge that while some strange might be fun, the hurt that it would do to my wife outweighs the pleasure I'd have doing it. So I don't. Conclusion, don't get married unless you mean it.

This is just wishful thinking on the part of the author.
Most women aren't OK with this, even if they say they are. Most couples will fall apart if they start to pursue open relationships. But most relationships don't pursue it until the relationship is already crap, so maybe that's the problem.

I think it probably had its place before there was protection or even an understanding of what disease is and ways that it spreads. If you farked all over the place you were more likely to get sick and die. I think that may have something to do with the whole monogamy thing you see in so many religions. They didn't understand what disease was and could easily explain all the playboys and harlots getting sick as "punishment from God." Now? Not so much now with available technology and our understanding of diseases.

Yeah, I've never cheated.
Even if I've found myself in a situation where I feel trapped emotionally (or worse, because of my financial situation), I've found it's always better just to leave. Maybe things will work out in the far future, but for the moment, some space and freedom is what's needed. You'd be amazed how many women are open to that idea. There's no need for deceit.

If I had skillz and a wife who wouldn't castrate me afterwards, damn right I'd sleep around a bit once in a while. Novelty's fun and sometimes sex is just sex.
However, I don't and I wouldn't hurt my wife, so there's that.

Contrary to what we may think, most men aren't cheating because they don't love their partner, he says; they cheat because they just want to have sex with others. And society shouldn't pooh-pooh that.
So if I don't assault people in order to rob them but just because I like assaulting people, society shouldn't pooh-pooh that, I guess.
Look, don't make promises, fail to keep them, and then blame someone or something else. Either don't promise, or keep your promises, or admit to your failures and work to fix them and improve yourself. This kind of whiny rationalization bullshiat sells books but does nothing for the species.
If you want to be polygamous, polyamorous, whatever, fine, but don't dress it up in sad weak thinking. Cheating on intelligence is worse than cheating on your spouse.

Unsolicited opinion time.
I think monogamy is a relief. I don't know about anyone else, but I find dating to be expensive, stressful, difficult, depressing, and generally hollow.
I like growing with one person and having a life to look back on. I like having the safety and security of her love. I don't need to indulge whatever fantasies or impulses I may have because the cost is too great. Yeah okay, strange may seem appealing, but it's beguiling. It seduces you without delivering anything solid and lasting. It promises much and delivers terribly little.
I don't think that anyone who dislikes or doesn't believe in monogamy is wrong or stupid. We just have very different values and desires in life.

Wow, way to pick your sample. Undergraduage college students--translation: young single guys who are prone to cheating on their girlfriends, and for whom "intending to stay with your partner" means not having found a compelling reason to dump her yet.
Good luck extrapolating that to older, married men with families for whom the potential consequences of cheating are much more serious.

If you aren't willing to stick with the person you are with, you are with the wrong person.
Maybe if you take more time to think about the relationships that you get into, you wouldn't feel such the overwhelming urge to cheat.
