So an actress no one has ever heard of had bit parts of two movies no one has ever heard of and she thinks her age on IMDB is what is causing her to not get jobs?

2012-01-07 07:28:06 AM
I'm going to guess having "Gingerdead Man 3: Saturday Night Cleaver" and "Hoodrats 2: Hoodrat Warriors." on her resume is what's causing her to not get roles.

The lawsuit caused a frenzy of online speculation over who the actress might be - as well as a bit of soul-searching about ageism in youth-obsessed Hollywood.

Women over 40 make up 24.3 percent of the U.S. population, but a casting analysis by the Screen Actors Guild showed actresses over 40 get just 12.5 percent of roles for television and film. Men of that age are also about a quarter of the population, but nearly equal their ranks in casting.

Sorry to say, but I'm pretty sure it's because men consume more of Hollywood's output than women, at least in terms of dollars. Men tend to be more attracted to younger women, and thus hot young chicks in the movies draw more male attendance. There are exceptions, of course. Occasionally you get a Sex in the City movie that draws tons of women (not to mention gay men) and makes the studios rich, but most of the time that's not the case. Women be different from men, you see.

To be fair, she was also in such classics as "The Bong Connection" and "All Purpose Cultural Cat Girl Nuku Nuku TV, Vol. 1: Keep the Peace on Earth!" So let's not rush to judgement, ok?

Ya know, if she actually OUTED herself, it might lead to more roles.

Oh, who am I kidding? The highlight of her filmography is playing Chun Li in the early 00s.

40, I can see that since when I look at the picture and had to guess I'd say 35 and I can't image "Hollywood" thinking she looks under then that.

If I'm remembering right, she has a very valid complaint. Against the terms of service and against her wishes, IMDB published her age on her public profile. We all know there's ageism in Hollywood (and probably in a million other places), so even though she isn't an A, B, or C lister it could very easily have meant any small consideration for roles she had previously, dried up altogether when people were able to see her age.

Men (and women) are attracted to what they think they see, not what's in front of them.
This woman is fine. But a man will only think she's more fine if she
lies about her age. If she looked exactly the same, but claimed to be 55,
suddenly she's ugly... or not as fine.

People are attracted to what they think they see, not what's in front of them.

So she has to lie about her age, in order to get ahead in a Hollywood which
already has her knocked down a couple pegs in what parts she's going to
be offered, because of her ethnicity.

I feel for her. Nobody should have to lie about their age.
Since it's professionally expected, what IMDB was in the wrong. I hope she gets paid.

2012-01-07 12:08:02 PM
I was convinced this was someone else but now I can't remember who. I even found that there were inconsistent dates of birth listed on different websites on the internet with her own website claiming she was born in the mid-late-80s or something but imdb (which didn't show a birthdate) had her playing a prosecutor or something in the early '90s.

In other news, hollywood stars lie about their ages.

Which is exactly why she tried to sue anonymously, and didn't come forward months ago when this story first hit, and only revealed her name when she was told by the court she couldn't sue anonymously and had to re-file. What a cunning plan.

Trust me I've worked in the semiconductor industry 20+ years. Asian women are tireless workers , but they age very fast. Probably because of how hard they work. Actresses don't have the stamina to do manual labor like the mindless work of the asian women I've known.

I imagine casting agencies, that have already paid her for work, already knew her age. That whole taxing thing. My guess is she didn't want friends learning how old she really was.

What "whole taxing thing"? All they'd need is her name and SS#, unless she works in adult films, in which case age records are kept.

Not only have I never heard of her, I've never heard of any of the *90* films she's been involved with. It's likely I heard her voice in the bit parts she did for the two anime titles I recognised, but roles like 'Girl 1' aren't going to stick with me.

If you ask me, this little dustup is probably the best thing to happen to ever happen to her career, and that may not be coincidental.

Hoang of Texas, may be better known by her stage name, Junie Hoang. She has appeared in such films as "Gingerdead Man 3: Saturday Night Cleaver" and "Hoodrats 2: Hoodrat Warriors."

Never heard of this woman - either by Hoang of Texas or Junie Hoang. And I never heard of any of the films she appeared in let alone seen any of them. So I guess suing Amazon was a ploy to get some badly needed attention for her career.

A lot of Asian women usually age quite well. It's Hawaiian women who hit an invisible age barrier and end up looking like South Pacific's Bloody Mary by the time they're 35.

college is not work. its not even close. they should never be compared with one another. maybe it's a grad school attendee thing?

laid back's point goes for all people, male and female, of all races and all ages. people who have 'Real Jobs' (I hate that term, but there you go) understand exactly what laid back is saying. it goes double for the differences between folks who have others take care of their needs, and folks who have to do it all themselves.

If your casting agent is handling your I-9s then it's probably not a very reputable agency. And any HR rep who wants to keep working isn't letting you look at them either, especially in California. Besides, I've processed my employees' forms myself and I'd still be guessing their ages.
