female any politician.

Elegance causes retardation and lesbianism. You heard it here first, folks. Avoid the liberal fashion conspiracy agenda.

Yeah, because that's an important quality in people whom we place immense power. "Well, at least she knows how to dress herself."

I swear to god we are living in a kindergarten world.

Why the fark do we care about a female politician's clothing?

Women should not even be in politics, they need to be in the kitchen.

Yeah, because that's what truly matters.

"Sure, the world's in nuclear chaos, there aren't any inhabitable places left on the globe, and the radioactive fallout is making the flesh fall from my bones, but hey, President Bachmann has a GREAT sense of style, doesn't she?"

By "we" do you mean gossip columnists?

This is just the chick version of all those stories about Obama's NCAA bracket picks.

/actually do think she was a sharp dresser
//pretty sure Marcus picked out the clothes

"She did extraordinarily well," said Christina Logothetis, a D.C. image consultant who writes the Style of Politics blog. "She transformed her look to remove her wardrobe from the conversation."

No, she didn't do anything with her clothes to remove them from conversation. It's just after people spent all their available time covering her batshiat ideas and general craziness. Palin ran up something like a 50K clothing bill before what she wore became a story. To outshine John Wayne Gacy, vaccine autism, bootstappiness despite taking government aid, hiding from gays who want to trap her in a public bathroom, and the perpetual deer-in-headlights look, she's going to have to run up that much in shoes alone.

I know I would trust the guy who wore an old Slayer tshirt, an ill-fitting pair of khaki pants, and worn-out flip-flops to a major political rally.

He would strike me as the type of bro I could sip some beer with.

Face it, appearance is a significant portion of a person's perceived personality.

The problem is that it's disturbingly common for political reporters in non-gossip articles to mention what female politicians are wearing.

Can't wait for her to lose an election and have her own reality show on a channel I can easily ignore.

Mad Tea Party: The problem is that it's disturbingly common for political reporters in non-gossip articles to mention what female politicians are wearing.

That's because women actually have a variety of relatively formal dress options, ergo choosing between the available choices is something that stands out.

Men wear suits. And that's about it, unless we're being deliberately casual. Take a look at any of the Republican debates that have gone on recently (picked solely because there haven't been any Democratic debates; they wouldn't be any different in this regard) and see how many of the male candidates are wearing something other than a suit in either black or gray or blue.

For men, business dress isn't fashion, it's a farking uniform. There's nothing to comment on unless they step outside the standard dress, and when you catch one of them doing so, it immediately becomes comment-worthy. Rick Perry and his Brokedown Jacket, for instance. Or the way Canadians mock Harper over the sweatervest he wore in some campaign commercials.

That's why we comment on female politician's fashion choices. Because they ARE choices. Men wearing suits isn't a choice. It's a standardized uniform. Whenever they step OUTSIDE the uniform, they absolutely get commented on to the exact same degree, if not more so.

Really? After all the bat shiat insane shiat she has said, we focus on how well she dresses?

Her gay husband is also her fashion consultant. Gives approval of her outfits with three snaps.

Death to New Rome: Women should not even be in politics, they need to be in the kitchen.

Not before they get pregnant and finish their sammich-making training.

As far as insane Republican candidates go, I preferred Sarah Palin, who dressed for closing time in a biker bar.

Yeah, but we aren't talking about women - we're talking about Michelle Bachmann.

2012-01-07 12:15:41 PM
Michelle Bachmann's clothes didn't become the story because the clothes become the story when there's nothing more entertaining to talk about. Her New Year's Resolution last year was apparently to say at least one mind-bogglingly stupid thing every day,so we never had a chance to get around to discussing her sartorial selections.

/agrees Marcus probably picked the clothes
//When 23 children you have, dress so well you will not

2012-01-07 12:19:27 PM
Okay, way to turn an article about not focusing on Bachmann's outfits into one that focuses entirely on her outfits.

And for the record, nobody asks about her clothes because nobody is that eager to look like somebody's grandmother.

Don Cherry openly laughs at your suggestion that suits are a uniform.

Remember that OUTRAGE when Fartbama was photographed in his shirtsleeves - ROLLED UP? You know, like a man typically does when he's got sh*t to do?

This was very early in his term - perhaps a month. "ZOMG he doesn't respect the Oval Office!" I mean, the guy was still in his tie and his shirt was tucked in to a presumably tailored pair of pants. But that socialist fascist bastard had the nerve to remove his coat and elevate his sleeves somewhat. HE HATES AMERICA.

This from the same group that was constantly telling me to respect the office even if I didn't like the man (which I do - I'd never have bristled and b*tched about Bush's sleeves, though I did complain about that stupid flight suit).

I wouldn't want to be in Wasilla today when Sarah Palin reads this article. Those poor sled dogs and random children will not avoid her boot, and I'm sure the poorly-spelled paean on Facebook calling for a "fierce-off" will lead to overheated retirees all over Freeperland

Ever notice in Pic 3, that when she inserts the sausage into her gaping maw for mastication, her eyes seem to retract into her skull like a sharks'?

Fart_Machine: Why the fark do we care about a female politician's clothing?

Big deals were made over Obama's mom jeans, and Gore's color coordination too. Multi-millionaires who wear $3,000 Gucci suits and Turnbull and Asser shirts on stage have to wander around in Timberlands and Carhartts when they meet the people for some stupid reason.

We are a silly people.

Thorak: That's why we comment on female politician's fashion choices.

More than that, (and I'm loath to admit this), but it also matters because, unfortunately, women DO need to show that they can remain feminine doing a job that has always been occupied by men.

Yes, it is a SUCK standard, but it's one that matters to people.

You could tell she hired some top-level image people right after the crazy-eyes magazine cover.

The My Little Pony Killer: Don Cherry openly laughs at your suggestion that suits are a uniform.

You'll note that Don Cherry is still in a suit and tie. Plus, it's absolutely commented on all the time, so he basically proves my point. Nobody comments on male politicians because they dress in the uniform. If men's fashion weren't a uniform, Don Cherry wouldn't get any press for daring to wear a red suit like that. But he does.

So, does this mean she's going to stop writing books and start a fashion magazine?
