The volume of erupted material from Kilauea covering the land there is enough to pave a road across the world three times

What is this land of which they speak? Unless I'm missing something the islands are nothing but lava from Kilauea and the other shield volcanoes.

Still short of the record currently held by Bobby Knight

Bobby throws chairs. Kilauea throws gigatons of lava. Advantage... Kilauea.

CSS time?

Back in elementary school, I was assigned to do a book report on Kilauea. This was pre-internet time, so I had to spend many an hour at the local public library trying to find information. This was a bit of a challenge, since at that time (late '82) the volcano hadn't been active in a few years (I think the library only had a couple books total that mentioned it.) I managed to cobble together a half-assed report & handed it in right before Christmas break.

A couple weeks later - and on the day I got my graded report back - Kilauea started erupting like crazy & there were news articles/info galore.

/I blame the book report

Csb time-

Growing up my family visited hawaii yearly, but the year we went to the big island is when it started spewing. We jumped to oahu to finish the vacation and haven't been back to the big island though we returned to oahu many times.

I've also been through a couple of volcanic eruptions in alaska as well, before leaving the state in '94. Has St. Augustine erupted since I've left?

/always strange disasters everywhere I go.

Surely this is Obama's fault, somehow.

If you ever get the opportunity to watch the lava flow into the ocean at night, take it. Double so if it's a full moon.

One of the most beautiful things one can see.

Just throw a virgin into it already! It's not that hard to find one.

Any nerd boy estimates on how much material has been added to the island?

Can't we leave Bobby Knight alone. He's been out of the game for four years now. Surely there must of been a better, more current, malcontent prone to throwing a fit. Like, maybe submitter's mom.

Have you *been* to Pahoa?

Wrong place to look. I'm pretty sure the University in Hilo has an "astrophysics club" - that should have plenty.
