Those movies are the greatest.
Gary: Now, one of you will be the drowning victim and the other one gets to be our lifesaver.
Amanda: I'll be the victim!

The movies were pretty good, I agree, and I think Christina Ricci did very well. I was never really drawn to Wednesday though.
My first childhood crush was on Carolyn Jones as Morticia.
It's OK, she's older than me, but she is

Carolyn Jones is the original Goth Goddess. There ARE no substitutes. And she showed that a character could be a wife, a mother, and still sexy as hell!

Agreed, and one of rather few films where the sequel is better than the original(and actually, outside of Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey, probably the best comedy sequel I can think of)

I have a few books of his cartoons. They are spectacular.
So do I, along with a whole slew of old New Yorker mags with Addam's drawings, and I keep them under lock and key. I got a lot of unwanted attention after some douche who showed up at a party at my house a few years back found them in a print cabinet while rummaging about. The creep kept calling me and insisting that I sell my collection to him because "I couldn't possible appreciate them". When he started showing up at my door at odd hours of the day and night, and after he somehow got a hold of my Mom's telephone number and stated scaring the shait out of her, I called the police. The cops put the fear of Morticia into him but I didn't take any chances. The whole lot of them are now in a safety deposit box at the bank, which is a darn shame - it's a lot of trouble when I want to look at them. I have no idea if they are worth anything except the paper they are printed on, but they are priceless to me.

They're out there. Good news is that it's the best selling pin of all time. Bad news is that they tend to be a little pricier than most because no one wants to part with one in good condition, but not too bad (again, there are tons of them.) Check Craigslist.

The first two movies were great, Addams Family Reunion was just producers riding the gravy train, trying to squeeze out all they could. There's a reason it went straight to video.

My parents had
Addams and Evil
, and subscribed to the
New Yorker
. Addams' cartoons were a fixture growing up. My grandmother (mom's mother) was horrified at one of the cartoons in
Addams
, the one with the Witch Doctor giving orders to his "nurse" who was depicted in "National Geographic" style.
One of my favorites from
Addams and Evil
is the guy digging a LONG ditch in a cemetery, and talking to another man outside the fence. "My goodness, no, just a water main."
That copy was already threadbare 40 years ago, I wonder if it's still around.

It's amazing the wealth of comedy series that came out in the early-mid 1960s: Gilligan's Island, Bewitched, Hogan's Heroes, Munsters, I dream of Jeannie are some of the ones that come to mind. I can't think of a similar 5-8 year span.

glad to see that doodle today. I loved the tv series when I was a kid ( I saw the originals), I've seen the movies. I had no idea that there was a Charles Addams or that he was a cartoonist who drew the Addams Family. I read an article today about him. My stars, I would have loved to party with him. How did I ever manage to never see his cartoons before?

And the shot of the grandmother in the kitchen with The Joy of Cooking right beside Gray's Anatomy is priceless :)
