The most vain city in the US is Miami, though it's followed closely by Chicago, whose residents dip their hats strategically below one eye and wear apricot scarfs

I would have thought it was LA. A friend moved there recently, and from what I hear there are ads for weight-loss fads and plastic surgeons everywhere. Kinda figures, given the main industry is Hollywood.
/And the San Fernando Valley is right next door.

Anyone who thinks Miami is something special, has to very vain to begin with.
Parts of Miami are so bad....there are bars on windows of high rise buildings.....way beyond the first floor

If you grew up in Chicago, you pretty much *have* to think you're much better looking than those other slobs. The alternative is unthinkable.
It's more a self-defense mechanism than true vanity.

The thing about Miami isn't so much the vanity but how unjustified it is. There are endless amounts of shiatty people who have this inflated sense of self-worth. That's why it's probably also one of the most needlessly hostile places I've ever been. Everyone thinks they're important, and everything anyone else does is an affront to that.

The list doesn't surprise me at all. Some of the most smug, self-important assholes I've EVER met have come from those two cities.

When I moved from Chicago to LA, it cracked me up that the alternative paper, the LA Weekly, looked exactly like the Chicago Reader. Except that 90% of the LA ads were for plastic surgery or botox.

LA has a professional class for vanity. Regular residents tend to somewhat leave the vanity and assholity to the professionals. But then again there is still a good amount of vanity - just compare the student bodies at the top two U Cal campuses. Berkeley students tend to be more nerdish and more concerned with academics than appearances while UCLA students are much more appearance oriented.

How is la not in this list!?!
La is the worst city on the face of this planet, it's full of jersey shore rejects, hair gelled douche bags and money grubbing whores.
They should build a wall north of camp Pendleton and south of orange county to keep the human filth from la out.
