Sweet deal. I'm growing my Brian Wilson beard now, and planning a trip to San Fran in September. Can't wait to see AT&T Park for the first time, rockin' a foot long beard.

/hey, Big Time Timmy Jim, what's up?

does it come in a colored version?

Yeah, well, be sure to show up at least 4 hours before the game to get in line to get one. No thanks.

My daughter, who is obsessed with Buster Posey (in way that seems disturbing to me for a 13-year-old girl to obsess over an adult male, but let's not go there right now) insisted that we go to the Buster Posey bobblehead giveaway game last season. Fortunately we bought our tickets months in advance because it sold out long before game day, but to my dismay, we learned a few days before the game that unless we showed up at the ballpark by no later than about 9 am for the 1 pm start and stood in line in the sun for 3 hours waiting until the gates opened, there is no way we would be among the "first 20,000 fans." So we did, and while my daughter's bobblehead now occupies a cherished part of the alter-like Buster Posey display in her bedroom, mine is still in the box in the back of a closet somewhere awaiting the eventual listing of it on eBay if it ever gets to be worth any kind of decent money. Given that the game was a few months after his injury, though, I still think a "bobblefoot" would've been the more appropriate giveaway.

God only knows what I'd do without one.

Sweet, a "Brian Wilson" garden gnome with Sergio Romo's complexion and apparently Pablo Sandoval's BMI.

Buster Posey looks 13 himself. Not a big stretch for your daughter to crush on him.

It's pretty epic, looks exactly like the beard in fullness AND color. #38 will be proud.

I call shenanigans

/sun? in San Francisco in the summer?
//a likely story

This is going to be a PR disaster. 20,000 is not enough for all the attendees.

Yeah, that was the thing. When we first got there, it was the typical summer weather--cold and foggy--so were dressed accordingly in sweatshirts, jackets, etc. About 30 minutes in, the sun broke out, and it quickly turned into one of those rare (for July or whenever it was) 80 degree days. I was sweating like a whore in church by the time they finally opened the gates.

Funk Brothers: This is going to be a PR disaster. 20,000 is not enough for all the attendees.

As described in my post near the top, the Giants never give away more than 20K of the freebie giveaway items (sometimes it's 10K), despite the fact that the place seats 45K and every game is sold out. That's why people show up 4 hours before the game to get in line on the more popular giveaway days (Posey bobbleheads, Lincecum bobbleheads, etc.). I'll never do that again, but it's not a "PR disaster"--everyone knows that only those who show up early get the goods.

Having once been a 13-year-old girl myself I can assure you that your daughter is far from the only teeny that has been obsessed with her grown-up male crush. At least he's married and you will be spared the histrionics that occur when it's learned that the crush has a girlfriend or is engaged. Consider yourself fortunate.

/she could do worse
//glad she got her bobblehead

your average maint. man: does it come in a colored version?

You'll have to resort to the Ryan Howard version.

Organizations do this all of the time. It's never been a PR disaster.

I hope you have fast hair-growth genes man. I just grew mine for over 5 months and only got about 3" out of it. It was plenty big, but not foot-long big. And I can grow a mean beard too. Just saying that you shouldn't get your hopes up too much about the length.

I have until September. It's been growing 2 months and it's already over an inch long. Even if it isn't ridiculously long, it still looks exactly like Wilson's beard. I can already get a pen stuck in it.
