(National Review) Unlikely Rick Santorum didn't say the word "black" when referring to welfare recipients, he said "bligh," obviously referring to welfare queen ship captains against whom we must rise up in mutiny   (nationalreview.com) divider line 410

But that's not what he said---he distinctly said "To blave" and as we all know, to blave means to bluff, heh? So you were probably playing cards, and he cheated...

Yeah, but this thread is going to get redlit, so it doesn't matter a hell of a whole lot. I toil in obscurity.

Maybe he just says bleah every time he thinks about black people. Sort of a psychosomatic aftertaste. You know, just because they are so dirty, not because of their race.

I can't even believe he's seriously trying to use this as an excuse...

I guess Fundies aren't really known for being bright or creative, though.

2012-01-06 11:02:23 AM
Why didn't he say black? Is that not accurate?

This is quite possibly the most astute Fark comment of all time.

Didn't Santorum already try to "clarify" by apologizing for not saying "African American"?

2012-01-06 11:04:32 AM
He clearly said "bli" as in blight, and Santorum said "blight people are a black on America". Santorum quickly corrected himself.

2012-01-06 11:05:04 AM
Okay, at what point will somebody rises and say, "Sorry, sir, I simply don't believe you?"

HotWingConspiracy: Didn't Santorum already try to "clarify" by apologizing for not saying "African American"?

No, his excuse was just as stupid however. He really meant to say blah people.

2012-01-06 11:06:54 AM
Wow. It is a good thing for Frothy Santorum that we are all as stupid as, well, a wave of frothy santorum after a night of debauchery, isn't it?

2012-01-06 11:07:01 AM
I'm probably farther to the left than most people here, but I really don't think he said "black." It sounded like a muddled line to me. I think there is enough stuff that Santorum says on a daily basis that requires mocking and derision that it's unnecessary to harp on this one. It simply gives power to the rightwing nutbags about how persecuted he is. Of course, they'd find that ammo somewhere else, anyway....so,carry on, I guess....

2012-01-06 11:07:49 AM
I think he should have gone with the "trying to make a joke" defense and the lamestream lie-beral msm media took it out of context.

2012-01-06 11:08:05 AM
anybody look at the video (I can't). Is NPR lying or is thls lady talking out her ass?

*make the situation worse by making half-assed excuses instead of either addressing it or outright ignoring it.

You think he actually said "blah people"?

Come on, now. Think for yourself. Stop trying to be "fair and balanced" and think critically about what you're looking at.

I am sure lying about what he said will convince all sorts of people.

I bet his new speechwriter, The Count, will take the fall for that one

2012-01-06 11:09:43 AM
Didn't we just do this?

2012-01-06 11:10:06 AM
This is the first I've heard of this, I don't know what he has said after the fact or whatever, but I think the sentence with "black people" in it was perfectly fine and 100% accurate.

I do not want to help black people by giving them a hand out, I want them work and grow right along with white people.

What is racist about that? OMGZ A REPUBLICAN IS RACIZT LOL

Get over yourself.

I don't get it

HotWingConspiracy: Didn't Santorum already try to "clarify" by apologizing for not saying "African American"?

Not quite. He's saying that if he had meant to talk about black people, he would have said "African American." So clearly he didn't say black, and you libruls are just making things up because you're afraid of a strong conservative woman, or something.

padraig: Okay, at what point will somebody rises and say, "Sorry, sir, I simply don't believe you?"

That would hurt Santorum's feelings, which would make the reporter too liberal to work in news anymore. They've been convinced that they're just supposed to be stenographers, and blatant lies are just a different opinion on the same story. Saying that one side is "correct" would be biased journalism.

Going to? He's already tried a couple different angles and failed miserably. I mean "I should've said African-American"? REALLY?

2012-01-06 11:10:51 AM
When I heard his retarded explanation, I didn't believe a word of it, mostly because it's just so dumb.

Then I heard the clip again, though, and I almost believe it now. He doesn't really say "black" there, but I think he was at least going to.

Regardless, the people who are voting for Santorum probably wish he would have said it, though.

2012-01-06 11:11:18 AM
I don't care if he didn't say black. It doesn't make his comment any less absurd or idiotic.

It was the sort of verbal flub that you make 100 times a day

Man it must be hard to carry on a conversation with her if she thinks that is normal.

Saw the vid the other day. In all honesty it does sound like he just said something, like uhm, but with a distinct 'b' sound. Totally a nonissue. When I stumble midsentence, I tend to just mumble something too.

And for the record, the guy's a farking tool. I really like his "no abortions for any reason" stance coupled with his "we should induce a pregnancy for my 19 week old fetusbabyhuman" so my wife won't die decision. Also, mad props for taking the fetusbabyhuman home and letting his kids play with it.

He clearly said "crack people" when referring to Philadelphia.

He clearly said "frack people" after drinking a nice cocktail of water and natural gas.

He clearly said "attack people" when asked about his foreign policy.

Isnt it true that a larger precentage of the black population use social welfare when compared to other racial groups?

FTFComments:
I will take him at his word that he did not intend to say black, but it does sound like black to me, but my laptop is very thin and the speakers on thin laptops are not studio quality.
