Well, good. I was wondering about that.

Well, I like casual attire and sex, but I generally dont combine the two.

These observations brought to you by the people in college who organized study groups in the student center.

I feel like such an odd college kid.

I enjoy drinking, I enjoy the taste, and I'll get really drunk when I am in a situation I feel comfortable doing so, however if I go out to a club/event I'm only drink 1+1 per hour I'm out unless I'm getting a ride home. While everyone around me is doing 6+ shots, has 6+ beers ect.

Then again, I work in nightclubs and raves (not for mind you) and so most of my friends and business associates are event coordinators/promoters/ect and they go way to hard.

Made the mistake of trying to keep up one night, don't know how I got home that night and woke up with a note taped to the inside of my door "Your car is back at the club." That was sure nice of them and made me feel better. Finding out later that the person who drove me home was 16 or so drinks deep did not.

Sorry, but I just don't like beer. Admittedly, my exposure has been limited to Budweiser and cleaning up the beer my brother spilled in the fridge. Doghead? Dogfish? Whatever it is, it smelled foul. Are there better beers, or do they all taste nasty?

2012-01-06 01:54:52 PM
Based on the beers I see kids drinking around here, I don't think they're doing it for the taste.

/Local pub has $8 pitchers of Dead Guy and you get Bud Light, WTF is wrong with you?

To be more precise, college students like to self-identify as adults by engaging in activities that are unavailable to children, and they like having a social crutch to excuse bad impulsive behavior on.

Products like "Milwaukee's Best" and "Miller Lite" are inexpensive means to those ends, and they are legally regulated as though they are beer.

Oh good god! Make your way to a micro-brewery or to a bar that sells local brews and order an around the world. Hopefully you can be salvaged...

Indeed, formal attire is best for sex.

Or don't. I like micro-brews as much as the next guy, but if it smells awful stay away. If you just want to drink, who gives a fark what you imbibe.

Now they just need to get David Attenborough to narrate the video they shot.

I like getting drunk but I don't like the taste of alcohol. What should I do?

"Stop being a pussy" is not an answer btw.

There's a lot of different types of beer, and the variety is as great as if not greater than wine, so there's bound to be something for you. That said, if you're just not into malted beverages in general, it could take a lot of experimentation (i.e. trying bad beers) before you find the right style.

Isn't that how people outside of college use it, too? Honestly, I think most of the people I knew in undergrad were _more_ responsible in their drinking than my current non-academic friends, though some of that was probably due to none of us being able to afford parking, much less a car, and thus avoiding the whole potential drunk driving thing entirely.

Now, the hallucinogens, those were a problem at times.

An around the world? I'll give it a shot. Are there any microbrews that you can recommend?

But...what if I am a girl? Can I have fruity girl drinks then?

Arkanaut: Thanks for the advice. I've heard that Sam Adams has a harvest ale (that's the same as beer, right?) that is pretty good. I'll try that.

I prefer red ales and IPA's, but you may prefer something different. Most microbrews have a fruity beer (rasberry, apricot, etc.) that most girls like and make a good introduction into the world of craft beers. As for brands, things are pretty regional, and I am not familiar with eastern brews.

You are not that unusual so don't worry, even when I was in the age bracket, I never cared much for going out and being of the scene. I'd consume a lot if I knew I was safe and had a ride home, or whatever. Keep in mind, I was also working the raves, and clubs, I was playing Bass in a couple of Punk rock bands, going up and down the east coast. in support of them.. Hanging out with GWAR and all the stuff that goes along with all that,.
But I was usually the soberest person in the entire crowd, and was constantly annoyed by all the drunk fools around me.

Hell, I still hate drunk people and I make beer for a living now!

Sam Adams also has a cherry wheat ale, if you're looking for fruity. Also, see if you can find a store near you that carries a lambic or a framboise (pronounced fram-BWAH). Those are made with fermented fruit and are less hoppy (hopsy?) and thus less bitter.

Question, did you wear earplugs back then, and if not what is your hearing like now?

No... I didn't, And Half the past 11 years working with bottling equipment also was with out PROPER hearing protection. My hearing is still satisfactory, but I have a tinge of tinnitus that only really bugs me if everything around me is dead quiet.

In fact, even with the Brewery going full tilt and everything is humming along a 50-60Db's of ambient noise, I can still hear the frequency of the Pneumatic pumps from across the brewery and around a couple of corners. and I can judge weather or not I need to go running to catch it before it starts sucking air in to the filters.
But I also have some kind of super Alpha male mega genes or something. so your miles may vary.

When in doubt, use some decent ear plugs, I certainly wouldn't call you a pussy for it. Got a smart phone? download a Sound meter app, if it reads over 60db, slap in some ear plugs.

I actually have, most of the events i'm at are about 105~, I started wearing them after the second time. Bought 3 100 packs as i started handing them out to the dancers, security, ect (I'm sure its an osha violation for them not to be provided them by management, but I'm not going to say shiat). I was just curious to see what long term damages would be like for some of my friends who refuse to wear them.

As for the brewery, my tv going puts my room up to 60db... I'd imagine a brewery would be louder?

Actually, I have no idea how loud a brewery is...How loud is a brewery?

Going full tilt around the bottling equipment it runs up to about 150db, the smaller machine hums along at around 60db, the rest is fairly ambient at around 40db
